Did you ever see Hagler ducking anyone?

His "not being able to deal with the loss to Leonard" isn't the reason he quit. He was thinking of quitting long before that.Leonard even admitted that when he invited Hagler to the opening of his Jameson's restaurant in Maryland,it was to gauge him for a possible bout.Hagler told him he was tired of it all and found it harder and harder to get motivated.This is out of Leonard's mouth and the ultimate reason Leonard decided to challenge Hagler when he did.

 

Leonard is a nice guy like that. . .

Like I said, I base my opinion off what happened AT THE TIME. . Not what was said years, and decades later.

 

Leonard was the golden boy of his era. You had to do a whole bunch of **** before he fought you.

 

calling him a quitter and someone who exhibited what you call "mental midgetry" does detract from his accomplishments in my opinion, whether you say it does or not. it leaves an asterisk next to his career as a whole, especially someone with a career so superb. everything else you said regarding his perspective post fight i've said it before and i'll say it again. i'll take the man's word for it and not your own invented marvin hagler mindset.

 

Right.And what happened AT THAT TIME was that Leonard invited Hagler to the opening of his restaurant and gauged him for a possible fight knowing Hagler was just fighting once a year and looking slower and slower with each passing year and opponent.And AT THAT TIME Leonard knew Hagler was getting ready to pack it in(as he told him),knowing full well that that was the last possible chance for the fight.

 

Yeah, yeah, yeah. . . Leonard beat Hagler, fair and square. . . None of this "out of prime' bull****. . . None of this "he was slipping" bull****. . .

Hagler talked mad **** for years. . . And like the old saying goes: "Be careful what you wish for, cause it just might come true."

 

Ok. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I look back at the actions, and words of Hagler immediately before, and after the fight. . . I see a man who can't deal with getting beat. . A man who couldn't deal with not being able to back up his mouth.

Hagler never quit during a fight. . I just feel that he "quit" boxing, which eventually turned into a retirement because he didn't get his way. . . If he won taht fight, I have no doubt he would have fought on. . .

It doesn't leave an asterisk next to his career, because his career was FINISHED when he exhibited his mental midgetry. .. And in hindsight, it turned out to be a good move. . . His legacy was already signed, sealed, and delivered. . .

I just think his mental midgetry after not being able to deal (with the L), CAUSED him to retire; he did not retire because he genuinely felt he was slipping, and losing motivation. . . HE LOST MOTIVATION THEREAFTER because of THE LOSS.

I'm done with this subject, though. . . It changes nothing. . . Your opinion, my opinion. . Changes nothing. . .

He asked Leonard for a rematch and waited almost a year before he "picked up his ball".

EVERYONE knew he wanted to retire.

After the Mugabi fight, while still in the ring, he was talking about his "last fight".

I do agree with you 100%, as long as their is testing allowed up till a few days before the fight - can't be too careful these days. Sure thing.

I don't know what you wanted him to do.A rematch was never on the table.After his disgust(unjustified IMO) at the decision,what other road could he have gone down?
You seem to want to see the greats going out in disgrace as a pale shadow of their legendary selves.
