Did you find Klitschko-Povetkin really that boring?

It wasn't really boring - Povetkin took a terrible beating. I thought the ref was going to stop it at one point.

It was the ugliest fight I've ever seen Wladimir in though.

Part of the problem was that Povetkin didn't have a plan "B" and kept bull rushing him and going into the clinch over and over for 12 rounds.

That being said, after so many years of boxing - 17 years as a pro and 64 fights and all those training camps where he pushes himself to the limit - Wlad is inevitably starting to fade with age this year. I thought I saw it in his last fight against Pianeta, even though he won easily. And it was more obvious today against the somewhat faster Povetkin.

    Ugly, thank you

That is the word, it was ugly, but I didn't quite find it "boring"

By the Ref's inability to penalize Klitschko for excessive holding, only late in the fight as a 'token' penalty. We may have seen a better fight in which even Wlad would be even more respected rather than now. Rather we got a shit fight.

    Gotta love Chris

To play devils advocate though, he says he would have slammed Klitschko if he were Povetkin (and that's a legitimate urge considering the circumstances) but that would be easier said than done, Wlad knows how to get all of that weight distributed on you perfectly

You were right the first time. It was not boring at all. It was a foulfest, with hundreds of holds, some decent shots landing, and all kinds of wrestling with Wlad literally throwing Povetkin to the canvas I don't know how many times. A boring fight is where nothing happens, like Banks-Mitchell a few months ago.

Actually, this fight was very interesting because it really showed how limited Wlad's jab and grab style is. If you pressure him enough, he has to make it a foulfest to survive and be effective.

It was boring as ****... I don't usually watch heavyweight fights, I didn't have a bias.

When I watched the fight again, I did not find it boring, but what frustrated me was the fact that Vlad had Povetkin out on his feet and did not bother to go ahead and knock him out!!!!!!! Steward would have raised Hell in the corner and kicked Vlad out for the knockout. Steward would do the same with Lewis. Lewis held Tua the entire fight. Mayweather holds a lot, not so much in the Alvarez fight, but in so many others. Ali used to get on my nerves when he held and laid on the ropes. Vlad still won every round, but he should have ended it.

Fire Banks and hire Stevenson's trainer from the Kronk Gym..................I suspect Band, esp. after watching Banks blow an easy win against Mitchell..........

Its not just the number of clinches, its also the way he initiates those clinches. His opponent is trying to get inside and throws punches and Wladimir is already opening his arms trying to grab and lean on his opponent. Its like he uses those clinches not to take time off to rest like others do but as a defensive weapon.

People forget that Lewis Tyson was also a clinchfest, not as much as this one of course but we tend to forget.

These people are 13 years old. They don't even know that Lewis fought Tyson.

Time flies so unbelievably fast, it seems like it was just recently. I remember I was on this very site discussing the aftermath of that fight 10 years ago. People forget that it was a very boring fight with lots of clinching and no highlight reels and the knockout was actually a push :)

Lewis Vs. Tua was awful! However, Vlad did win every round and got four knockdowns.............He should have gone ahead and knocked Povetkin out, but winning every round?!

HBO claims that Crawford is the best lightweight in the world, and the most exciting fighter, perhaps in boxing history! Well...............the fans were booing like Hell, so they can't complain about Vlad, he won every round and got three knockdowns. Crawford really did nothing against a fighter he was supposed to beat................
