Not at all. I've watched the Toney fight a million times, just a perfect display of boxing skill and athleticism. I've also watched the Pazienza and Brannon fights often. Such incredible displays of dominance are rare.
He was usually a safety first fighter. Even though he is my #1 favorite modern fighter, I admit back when I first stated watching him, I was less of a fan for his safety first mindset and toying with opponents. Over time, he won me over with his almost inhuman skills.
David Telesco took some hellacious blows in that fight and took them well. Here's an example. Not exactly a wobble, but the man is being hit very, very hard and is not exactly enjoying it or looking very steady. Got to 6:35. Then take a look at 11:00 for some more wobbliness. His Hall fight kind of pissed me off he dropped that big man so easily in the 1st and the fight proceeded to go til the later rounds
and then there's this sequence starting at 6:55 -- Telesco not looking real steady. Looks like some very powerful blows he's absorbing. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnDfeneonfI&feature=relmfu[/ame]
and then at 10:10 - 10:18 -- I'd call that a wobble. Not tedious at all! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnDfeneonfI&feature=relmfu[/ame]
Thats was a fun time .I remember when Meth and Red came out with him .And RIP the late great Arthur Mcante Sr !
then at 10:40, watch for it: wobbled by a jab! Wobbled by a jab! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnDfeneonfI&feature=relmfu[/ame]
I remember when he was fighting Julio Gonzales knocked him down so easy with a 3 hook combo. but proceeded to just outbox him to a decision. I must say though, that MOST of RJJ fights have been exciting and he did go for the KO. But at times, he didn't.
people find him tedious to watch because of the way he thoroughly dominated him comp in his prime....just like Mayweather today, and Ali before him.....casuual fans wanna see knockouts...not skillfull white washes...as for me it wasnt even though he was unorthdox i learned alot from him...countering and ring generalship he is the master..dude had the glow in his prime like Leroy green
There's only 2 maybe 3 fighters in the history of the sport that were as much or more of a pleasure to watch. The gulf in class between Roy and everyone else was so obvious from the first bell in every fight..... that **** was awe inspiring and never seen before or since.
Yes he was terribly boring. I would rather watch Antonio Margarito follow someone around the ring getting battered to smithereens than to watch a prime Roy put on a dazzling display of athleticism. :rofl
