What I saw last night from Cotto:
    *Better defense

    *Better footwork and balance

*Moar use of his right hand

    *Fighting smarter behind his jab

    *He's willing to clinch now!

*He seems to have moar patience now

What he can improve on is to not be as single track minded in the ring. What I mean is you see great fighters literally do offense and defense at the same time. In last night's fight whenever Cotto was doing a defensive manuver he was focused 100% on defense with no counter to follow it up. I'm sure he'll work it out with moar time under Steward.

What impressed me the most was he was able to stick to the game plan and use his jab consistently. He was still getting hit cleanly and if Yuri had been a devastating hitter it might've been a different outcome. Am I crazy to say I like Cotto's chances at beating Pac at 154? I figure the human body can only do so much. Pac is a tiny dude and his speed would likely be compromised at that weight which would take a lot away from his tool box. He doesn't rely on a great jab therefore it would appear to me he's no longer superman when you take away his speed or reduce it significantly. Steward will make Cotto box effectively and consistently which can spell trouble for Pac. But who knows, maybe I am crazy. Definitely not crazy enough to pay for a Pac-Margarito fight though.

He can just weigh in the same as he did for his last two fights to avoid sacrificing his speed. I think emmanuel was 150 on fight night?

He wasn't worried about Yuri's power, and he's still picking up on Manny's training.

I've heard Manny's walk around weight is near 150, maybe more. But he's never fought at anything above 147, which Roach has stated he's actually slower than his campaign at 135-140. In Boxing a few pounds makes a big difference. If he fights at 154 it could mean he's biting off more than he can chew.

Irrespective of the weight of the fighters, it would still be Manny and Miguel, and right now Manny is the better fighter. Yes, Manny might sacrifice a bit of speed, which is one of his main weapons, but you also have to factor in Miguel's weaknesses - his main one being that he struggles against fighters with a high punch output. Manny would retain his punch output, and would therefore beat Miguel again.

With that said, great performance from Miguel last night... it's good to have him back to winning ways.

Yeah, he made some quite notable changes seen as they have only had one fight. It will be interesting to see what they can do with Cotto from here on in.

obviously the opponent wasn't a very good one to judge but i did see a few things...

cotto didn't bend down as much, he kept upright and threw the jab

he actually learnt how to block properly with his gloves (it might have had something to do with the pillow sized gloves he was wearing)

he didn't do any unnecessary jumping up and down like he used to.

i think steward needs to work on his right hand alo more though, each time he landed it, it hurt foreman but he didn't throw it enough.

all in all i didn't see any big improvements, maybe thats a good thing but then again this was only one camp, cotto needs to train with steward longer.

Definitely the balance and the jab. Manny always urges his fighters to double up the jab to set up big bombs.

Balance, he didn't put his hands as high as he usually does. Basics overall.
He still eats too many right hand.

You'll never remove his tendency to take right hands, sadly. But he was doing a better job of slipping shots. I thought it showed he has some potential to still develop while in his athletic prime.

Yeah I thought steward did a good job as well. I mean Cotto is past his best now and he had all kinds of **** going on in his past camps and personal life. Manny did a great job getting him to focus, tightening up his defense and fighting tall.

I think steward did as much as he could as far as making improvements with his style, i dont see how people could be expecting more than what they saw given the situation.
