Did you really think the Tyson/McBride fight was the end of an era?

Like most, I think the logical reaction after the fight was -- he's done. But did you honestly believe that would be the end of Tyson's professional career? I know I didn't.

I was almost certain he was going to take an extended vacation and then make another run -- 2 or 3 more fights, assuming he didn't lose along the way. If for no other reason than to pull out of his much documented financial mess.

    Thoughts?

hell no, i thought 3-4 rounds ko by mike ,max. After round 2 i knew Mike was done. It was sad but reality indeed.
Why did they put him in with a giant?

RIGHT!?! Back-to-Back giants. Wasn't Danny Williams the fight before? It's pretty well known that Mike and big heavy's weren't a good match.

But in all fairness, he was 9 times out of 10 the smaller opponent.

I had a feeling Iron Mike would lose that night.I felt he could could stop him at anytime but he just couldnt do it. I still cant watch the fight it broke my heart to see a great fighter like Tyson lose to a fat mother****er like McBride.

That's a good point you make. I don't think I've ever re-watched that fight myself.

No. I thought the end of an era was when he was KOed by Danny Williams. There are still people to this day that say:

"If Tyson got back with Rooney could he........."

    :rofl:patsch

That Tyson dd not care anymore. Prime Tyson Pre Douglas beats everyone he fought but a fight with foreman a prime tyson we would still be talking about it today as one of the greatest wars In boxing history.

Prety much what I thought. With all his money problems I thought Tyson would at least fight a few more fights before hanging them up.

But for me the Tyson era ended when Lewis beat him to bits... that was Tyson's last shot and before the fight was over, I already knew we'd seen the last of Tyson fighting in the big time fights. That was a very sad night for me.

As that fight progressed you can see Tyson become more and more frustrated with McBride's unwillingess to go away. The telling moment of that fight was when Tyson kind of fell against the ropes without being knocked down and was very slow to get up. Obviously, nobody gave McBride much of a chance to win but as we found out, all it really took to beat Tyson at that point was the ability to stay up for 4 or 5 rounds. I don't remember McBride landing anything of consequence, just some clubbing shots here and there. Mike's post-fight press conference was very candid and you just knew by the way he was speaking that he had finally come to accept that he couldn't use boxing to make money anymore. He had stopped loving the sport years earlier so he was fighting stiffs for paychecks and he realized that even that ran its course.

I got that feeling after the 1st Holyfield fight to be honest. At least with the Douglas fight everyone knew he hadn't prepared properly, and Douglas had a great jab and all that. With Holyfield there were no excuses he just got the **** kicked out of him and the myth was gone forever.

I agree a bit. I think that Tysons camp fed him totally underprepared to Holyfield, believing Holy was shot.

Tyson had bugger all rounds under his belt after prison, against mugs, divers and a Bruno who looked like he was fighting the Grim Reaper on the way to the ring.

That is not good preparation after being in jail for 3 odd years.

He needed to be brought along with a few decent challenges (fair enough, Bruon was supposed to be that) before fighting a Holy.

Maybe his camp knew he didn't have it in him anymore, and were just after money, who knows?
