Not really. More just the general hype around fights like the Eubank vs Benn fights, the Tyson vs Holyfield fights, Tyson vs Bruno and Naseem Hamed's KO's and showmanship. I just loved anything to do with fighting as a kid. All the cartoons I watched were about fighting. Karate Kid movies, Rocky movies, Bruce Lee, Van Damme, Steven Seagal movies etc.

Nope my dad never even took me to learn to swim, to box, to do anything worthwhile. It is amazing how far my siblings got considering how little my dad gave a shitt about anyone else but him. In a lot of South Asian families it is considered that the man earns the money and that's all he does. Dad never went grocery shopping or learnd to live independently (still doesn't- just expects us to bring it for him, cook for him, clean for him etc). Pretty much too lazy to do anything and told us we should be thankful he put a head over our house and that he can slap you around, pull his funding from you etc. An *******, the biggest one, bar none in my life. He always acted like he was entitled to things like respect from his wife and kids...these things are earned.

My dad and my older brother were also physically abusive growing up (even to my mom). If you think bullies at school are bad, imagine growing up with them for 20+ yaers. What got me into boxing was defending myself. Once I showed my dad and brother that I could hit, I INSTANTLY saw respect. That grew into watching fights and seeing the strategy involved. I just 'got' it. To me it was intruiging how guys with smaller reaches could follow a strategy to hurt a taller rangier guy.

It's like Starcraft to me. Many strategies, each with its own benefit and weaknesses, in a world with the constraints/rules of boxing

NO, my uncle did. I used to be obsessed with Rocky movies when I was like 6 Watching them day and night. All 5 of them, in an endless loop. He came to visit one day, and he asked what I was doing, and I replied "watching boxing". He came in and told me to cut it off. He then told me that it wasnt boxing. We then watched Morales Barrera 1 live. And I pretty much fell in love with the sport. Sometime I cover my whole body up in Vaseline and crawl around the house pretending to be a slug when no one is around. I haven't stopped watching boxing since

My parents used to watch all the Tyson fights and my dad had recorded a bunch of HBO legendary nights about Leonard, Hearns, Hagler. I loved them and watched them all the time. Then when I was in high school would watch Tuesday night fights on USA and in college we always got RJJ fights. Been hooked since.
