That was some hiding he gave him, hurtful punches to watch. It was a relief when that fight was over: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vSGueEZAL8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsJeMnjYW2g&feature=related Batista was 26-0 at the bell, his record after this fight is horrific. He goes 2-8 in his next ten and gets KO'd 3 times, all of them more quickly than Zarate managed against lesser foes with lesser power. He then righted himself a bit, going 7-4 at Brazilian national level...but still, Jesus. The reason I ask is that during the fight with Zarate, he looks good. Good punch resistance, heart, toughness, desire, good feet, decent hands...he looks like a good fighter who got it wrong tactically against a great fighter. Any thoughts about this guy or this fight?
it was a question to everyone i think or unless Teeto aint alowed to respond to anything without permission
McGrain, what you said about Zarate effectively breaking Batista there, i really do believe that if someone can do such a thing, he is a candidate. Prolific as they come, a wrecking machine.
I've never seen any of Batista's other fights but he gave a pretty good account of himself against an ATG fighter as you stated; in addition, as teeto said, if any fighter was able to inflict irreparable and irreversible physical and mental damage to an otherwise good opponent, Zarate's name has to crop up. Watching that footage it seemed as though Zarate was non-verbally communicating something along the lines of " you're a good fighter, well done for trying but no cigar." Looked utterly relaxed while dishing out a corporal beating, exploiting every hole Batista presented him: just a huge step up in class from anyone Batista had previously faced. It just seems to happen to some blokes after they've been on the receiving end of a hiding; they never fully recover.
Cheers mate. Looks like he fought for the South American bantamweight title a few times after Zarate beat him, maybe's some folks on a foreign forum might be able track something if no-one on here can help. Shows how easy it is to vanish into obscurity despite possessing obvious ability. How many boxers who aren't even footnotes in history could have been more widely known given different circumstances? Sad thought.
