I personally don't particularly care for his style. I didn't say he was overrated as a fighter, just that his skills are overrated in my opinion. I prefer guys that fight like Mayweather, Martinez, Dawson, Bradley, and Bute. They may not all be exactly the same, but they use very similiar fundamentals. So, yes I think from a skills perspective, especially defensively he's overrated, but a fighter, he's not. I've been sayin this for a long time, and it's my opinion, so it's fine if you feel differently.
Of course it did but not to the extent of taking the worse schooling of your entire life via 12-0 masterclass.... much more credit must go to FMJs talent than discredit to Marquez ability at the weight.
no one's discrediting anything. i'm saying, you put too much premium on the "schooling" that was done and tend to leave out the fact that jmm being asked to rapidly go up in weight. you turn a blind eye on the injustice that was done on jmm and yet glorify the performance that floyd did. floyd defeats jmm at any weight class i agree, but had the weight been more equal, jmm would have had at least performed a little bit better. floyd already as plenty of advantages, i just don't understand this choice of opponent under the circumstances they fought.
JMM wasn't asked to do anything. he's the one who wanted the fight with Mayweather and called him out, and he knew that he would have to move up if he wanted the fight. Its not Mayweather got on the phone and said "Juan, I really want to fight but can you please move up in weight, and hurry."
In regard to the FMJ fight... http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=06c1c281c62196e80e274e7d3bda4b28
Why does the trilogy make no sense? Floyd vs JMM should have NEVER happened. That was just a dumb matchup. Floyd could easily fill out at 154, and there is no reason why Marquez.... who easily fights at 135 jumped up to fight him like that. It's just a credit to JMM that he is willing to do things like that. It might be different if Floyd was a brawler that Marquez could counter punch... but Mayweather himself is a counter puncher who is always on his bike. Pac doesn't have that huge size advantage over JMM. Pac could still fight at 135 if he wanted to. Floyd couldn't do it for a billion dollars. He said that in the begining of his career he had to starve himself for 4 days in order to make 130... and that was before his body matured. Also, Pac's aggressive offensive style of fighting gives JMM the opportunity to be effective as the great counterpuncher that he is. Also, JMM would be willing to fight Pac. Floyd clearly is NOT willing to fight Pac. I agree though.... this fight should never take place over 140 lbs.
it was a bigger younger better counter puncher, vs an older smaller slightly less talented counter puncher. Of course Mayweather's big ass won. Kid couldn't even hit the catchweight.
that's not what i'm saying bro. the point of the post was, you mostly regard that fight as an absolute testament to floyd's greatness but tend to leave out jmm's circumstances that i mentioned (regardless of the reason)
Pacquiao fought Margarito at 144.6 or something weighing in. JMM fights at 135. Make it a 140 catchweight and have done with it. Dont know why Pacquiao wouldnt want this, I think he would easily beat Marquez if they fought, at any weight, at this point in time.
Naw, you must not have ever seen any of my posts relating to the fight. I considered the fight a tuneup for Mayweather. He looked amazing and showed his skills were still there after 18mths but you're never gonna see me hailing the victory as one the greatest of all time. But like other have mentioned, Mayweather won that fight off of pure skill. he never imposed his strenght whatsoever. But at the same time, its funny how when Mayweather moves up and fights bigger guys, nobody cares. If he were to lose it's becasue he sucks and was overrated, but the first time he is actually clearly the bigger man, people get all irked about it. i don't understand it.
