Ive been looking through a lot of pictures of the net recently (if you couldn't tell with a few of my recent posts/threads) and found this picture of Joe after his fight with Galento.

I'm guessing most of the swelling came from the left hook Galento dropped him with. Also looks like Joe's nose is a bit crooked. I would love to see how poor Tony looked the next day too.

Galento was a heavy handed and tough son of a gun. For the Lou Nova fight he should have been arrested for practicing surgery without a license. He was a brutal puncher. I am surprised Louis is so swollen though. Galento was beaten to an absolute pulp by the Brown Bomber. But Two Ton Tony obviously got his licks on Louis too.

There's a book out that covers this fight called "Two Ton" and Tony makes Joe look like a fashion model.

Louis was always getting himself beaten up:

Who's he fighting in the first pic? Its not Ezzard Charles. It looks like the latter part of Louis' career. Probably 1950 or so?

It is Charles actually. You can tell by how the eye is swollen.

Thanks Manassa. That was a good fight by the way. Saw it on ESPN classic awhile back. Charles gave Louis a ba beating but Joe was having his moments late. I think Louis would have caught up to Charles eventually in his prime. But Charles was very underrrated and does not the credit he deserves. Charles gave Marciano two hellacious battles.

Galento is a very underrated fighter and had one of the best left hooks ever.

Well, the reality of heavyweight boxing is that it will cause swellings and bruises when you get tagged by solid punches.

Tony Galento was a muderous hitter.
I agree with MegaLamps, Galento's left hook was one of the best ever.

You slug with a slugger, you're gonna pick up a few bruises ;)

After learning about Galento, man the guy was a beast...

I need to get my hands on Galento-Nova somehow...

But weren't his trunks black with white stripe for that fight? Are you sure that's Charles?:huh

    The top pic is Louis-Charles.

Not sure about the other two. I'd guess Jimmy Bivins and Cesar Brion.

That's not Charles. Both the trunks and the hair are wrong.
