Can anyone say they have turned full circle and gone from boxing only and anti MMA to an avid MMA fan ? For me I still enjoy a good night of boxing but I feel MMA at times can be more enjoyable as a sport to watch, obviously there are stinkers to watch but still plenty of quality fights.
Depends on where. In the US? Maybe, yeah. There wasn't much going on in the US after Mike Tyson retired, that would make casual fans exciting. The rest of the world? Boxing is living. 2018 and AJ is selling 90000 seats within MINUTES. Wladimir had 10-15 Million viewers alone in Germany. Combined in Europe I think he may have cracked the 70 Million mark. We are doing fine and the future of boxing is here and in Asia!
i also enjoy mma, i understand the skill involved in disabling a man, whether it be by ko, broken bone or surrender. i just dont feel any connection to any of its fighters, like i do with boxing.
One thing I would say about UFC is that some fighters seem to have very long gaps between fights which is quite annoying. Nick Diaz not fought in 3 years , McGregor 1.5 years , Nate Diaz 1.5 years,
Boxing is suffering in the US. There are no stars. 39-0 KO artist is the heavyweight champ and noone gives a fool about him. Spence is a little don but is an unknown. If they were from the UK they would be multi millionaires and household names..
UFC is suffering as the fighters are flexing their muscles now they have more exposure. Andre Berto gets a bigger guarantee than the top 10 UFC p4p bar Mcgregor and they regularly get close to 1mil ppvs so something is a miss. They are getting fleeced
the hardcore on here are die hard boxing fans **** MMA watched a james toney fight on you tube and maybe 3 or 4 others to see what people are talking about they are hard men / but as a sport i dont find it appealing or entertaining.
I myself enjoy the UFC PPV events. They are usually quite fun and good in quality. Meanwhile HBO is showing Matthysse-Kiram down out throats as a good night of boxing. Idk, UFC at the moment is like when SHO had those stacked quality cards back in 2013/2014.
What also makes it interesting is how some MMA fighters evolve as their career goes on and develop a very varied skill set , you can see huge improvements within a couple of fights.
this is a boxing forum MMA is a different event saying MMA is now more popular to diehard boxing fans on a boxing forum is trying to undercut the sport i follow i could not name 5 MMA fighters cro crop and mcgregor thats it i dont want to talk about MMA on the boxing section of esb i dont want to talk womens boxing on the boxing section of esb i want to talk boxing if i was intrested in MMA i would join a MMA forum
I've always liked MMA. I'm a bit out of the loop with the latest stuff but used to follow Pride and UFC closely. Also K1. I loved to see the best strut their stuff. MMA has given me some unforgettable moments. Even the freakshows the Japanese used to put on were to me very entertaining. MMA solved the question of "which martial art is the best?" The answer is: "All of them". Together. Some of the highlights: I marvelled at Cro Cop's takedown defence and lethal head kicks. Vovchanchyn beating up a series of giants in one night. The raw savagery of Wanderlei. Chuck's unorthodox but effective striking. The Last Emperor, Fedor, in his introduction to Pride. The commentators were already making excuses for this little bored-looking, pudgy Russian going up against the fearsome Heath Herring. "It's not a gimme" said Quadros. It sure wasn't. That is what "ownage" is, if you had to distill it into a single fight. Machida's evolution of point-fighting karate into what seemed like an untouchable system at its best. Shogun Rua cutting a swathe through the opposition with a blend of muay thai and grappling, including Machida's legs. And who can forget Dan Henderson, the grand old man of MMA, having a murderous two fight series with Shogun and rearranging Bisping's face twice? MMA has provided some of the best entertainment I have seen. And if you don't like the grappling, K1 with its array of hard men like Hoost, Aerts, Roufus, Schilt, LeBanner and Hug amongst many is sure to entertain. There's plenty to watch outside of boxing.
a lot of these dudes are just plain ignorant. Nothing wrong with preferring boxing but slagging something you know next to nothing about? Just off the top of my head. Mark Hunt vs Bigfoot I Justin Gaethje vs. Michael Johnson & Luis Palomino I & II Cub Swanson vs Doo Hoo Choi Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje, Michael Chandler I, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Joachim Hansen(Dudes pretty much the MMA Gatti) Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayama Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio Rua I Donald Cerrone vs. Rob McCullough & Ben Henderson I Dennis Bermudez vs. Matt Grice Almost all of these are pure CTE inducing blood and guts wars. These are fights that earn any true fight fans respect.
