Clearly he's more crafted than Maidana, I'd say he's even with Matthysse
in the skill dept. Matthysse is gonna have trouble every time he fights a
skilled mover with a first rate chin (ie Devon), or someone who can go the majority of
the fight and not get hit clean much (ie Zab). Those fights were not anomalies.
Thurman's movement also ultimately befuddled Chaves. These argentines come up
not training for guys that can move and be elusive.

Josesito Lopez throws straighter, faster shots and is generally considered more 'skilled' than Maidana but what happened there?

Peterson is more 'skilled' than Mathysse but what happened?

The only skill thats necessary is the skill to win.

 

against thurman, maidana is going to appear 2x as skilled as chaves on his way to a ko win.

You're out of your fcuking mind as usual. Thurman would beat Maidana easier than he did Chaves. Maidana is slower doesn't hit as hard and is there to be hit. Thurman brutalizes Maidana and makes it look easy.:deal

 

He's probably a better, sharper counter-puncher than Maidana - but offensively he is neither as powerful nor more skilled than Matthysse.

 

Purely in terms of skill?

Maidana has intangibles that make him more formidable h2h than Chaves, but even with his new & improved toolkit I don't think his fundamentals are better than Chaves' (or Matthysse's) or even as good.

He is still pretty much a puncher (and for a long time a slappy puncher, at that) who is recently learning how to box a bit.

 

It would be a good fight for as long as it lasted. I hope we get to see it soon.:good

I enjoyed seeing him fight and he has nice boxing skills and the willpower / self discipline to not get into slug wars unless forced:yep

I do not see his skill set being above the M&M boys :nono but I do hope to see more of Chavez on Showtime:smoke

 

You will see Maidana improve more with the help of Garcia. It is hard for me to be objective :yep because I just have always loved the little madman Maidana:smoke
