Could have been one of the most fan-friendly bouts of all time Shommel...I think right off the bat that Mancini would have been shook up and decked but may have come swarming back for a 13th round stoppage of Corrales.
Corrales was just as tough. If he could hit someone he usually had success. I see him beating Mancini in a barnburner.
I see Corrales short crisp punches landing and scoring him the knock out sooner or later, Corrales was a monster if he could get his punches off
Similar to the the Bramble fights(though I do believe Mancini did enough to edge that rematch),I think the cleaner, sharper and more precise inside work of Corrales would be the undoing of Mancini.Ray's only effective at such close range, and I believe this would hurt him against somebody that is capable of matching him for workrate, who is so effective at close quarters, and somebody as heavy-handed as Corrales. Close, exciting fight while it lasted, but I'd favour Corrales to stop him.
^^^ I agree with this, on paper its an even matchup.. But style wise i agree with the other posters... Mancini would give him all he wants, but Corrales would bust him up inside.. Mancini had a solid chin but, Corrales hits hard enough to hurt him repeatedly throught the fight and eventually they take their toll... I think both would score kds but Corrales would do more damage.. Corrales tko 10
Mancini could get into serious trouble if he just steams in or gets over-aggressive like against Bramble, but i would pick the mancini who picked his spots better and used a lot of unorthodox in-out movement against Ramirez and Arguello to beat Chico.Diego had some of the worst footwork and upperbody movement of any notable world class fighter.
I go back n forth on this matchup all the time.... but I think the most likely scenario is Mancini stopping Chico late. But the opposite result could just as easily occured, as maybe Boom Boom would have walked into too many of Chico's short hooks. The only guarantee is that it would have w/o a doubt been one of the most VIOLENT wars in history.
Mancini stops Corrales anywhere from 11 to 13 rounds, in a very close fight with both combatants bleeding profusely.
