I was worried about Mexican boxing for a second, but DDLH, Valdez and Rey Vargas look good so far.
Vargas needs to step up though imo.

I'll still root for my boy Lomachenko if he ever faces any of these guys though. :D

Julian Ramirez, check this kid out as well, he's beastly. I think Ivan Najera should not be discounted either, Mexican boxing was on the decline only very temporarily.

The only question about De La Hoya really has been his stamina given that his style is kinetic you'd figure it had a high energy cost, and I guess we still don't know if he'll gas out in the championship rounds versus a fighter good enough to really push him, but I suspect not given that he shows no signs of let-up in the 8th/9th/10th...

Yeah, he wouldn't be bouncing around on his toes in the 10th if he had stamina problems I don't think.

I know he was fighting at his own pace, but still, so far he's displayed really quite excellent stamina.

They're all around the same weight class too. DDLH, Valdez, Vargas, JoJo, Ramirez. I've been following all of these guys, except Ramirez, since they were amateurs (even Vargas), so it's cool seeing them develop.
I also like Jose Ramirez, the Light-Welter, maybe not as technical, but it looks like this kid will be a star. He already has tons of sponsors and drew like 10,000 fans for one of his fights.

    All very good amateurs.

DDLH went 239-11 (95% W), Rey Vargas 128-6 (95% W), Óscar Valdez had over 200 fights and won most (probably in that same range)...

And funnily enough, most of them are all very technical guys which is not what you'd expect from Mexican boxers if you took that stereotype seriously.

All technically sound, but none of them are cutie-pies. They all have potent offenses.

Yeah. Ruiz was a perfect choice. Good enough for De la Hoya to get loads of credit for shutting out, but not a risk (as I'm sure Diego's handlers knew, or made a highly educated guess) to spring the upset.

Let the record show that I did infact start this thread, but it was hijacked by a ruthless, renegade rogue mod; that shall remain nameless...!!!
