Here is what I believe or at least have noticed to be true about these 2 sets of fans.

We all agree that this fight needs to go down. We all also have our reasons for believe that either fighter would win.

Cotto fans believe that Cotto can beat Floyd or at least give him the most difficult fight of his career. However, i dont believe I've read a post from a Cotto fan who has ever said that Cotto could easily go through Floyd. Despite all our criticisms of Floyd, we do recognize his immense talent. We simply believe that Cotto has a great chance to beat him.

However, it seems that many Floyd fans view him as this invincible being who can seemingly KO anyone who steps into the ring with him. Many, too many, floyd fans seem to believe that he would "easily" defeat Cotto. They even claim he would KO Cotto inside of 10 rounds.

Again, Floyd is the greatest boxer today, but to say he would "easily" beat Cotto is absurd. No true knowledgeable boxing fan should ever say anything so absurd. It should also never mentioned that Floyd would KO Cotto. I say this b/c Floyd has not shown that he can legitimately KO a true Welter. If he was not willing to take the initiative to KO a punching bag like Baldomir, what makes people so sure that he would do it against an offensive powerhouse like Cotto, who contrary to what people believe, has an excellent chin and great defense.

Now, I'm not saying to floyd cant win nor am i saying that he cant KO Cotto. I'm simply stating that no fight fan should say that either fighter will defeat the other easily.

Most, if not all Cotto fans recognize Floyds talent. i think it's time that all of Floyds fans and the extreme nuthuggers give Cotto the respect he deserves.

    He is a great fighter.

Floyd's footwork would be the biggest issue for Cotto. Floyd won't go toe to toe early. He'll jump in n' out with some sharp shooting. If he manages to breakdown Cotto mentally, he'll stand in the pocket and do some damage.

While everone is always impressed with Floyd's handspeed, it's his defense and footwork that demoralizes opponents.

Having said that as the old saying goes "and that's why you play the game...." Anything can happen.

It'd be a good fight for sure but if you want to SEE a GREAT fight, that would be Margarito vs Cotto. I'd pay PPV money for that in a heartbeat.

Cotto getting KO'd or Cotto KOing Floyd? If you think Floyd can't KO Cotto, then you're underestimating his power and overestimating Cotto's chin.

anyone can KO anyone with the right punch. I just want Floyd fans to give Cotto the proper respect he deserves. They need to stop saying that Floyd would "easily" defeat Cotto. Or Cotto has never faced someone like Floyd....etc...

Truth is Floyd has never faced anyone like Cotto.

So they both would have to fight their hearts out.

I think Cotto has shown that he is a great fighter. He has so many facets to his game; he can box or fight. Mayweather would have a tough time against Cotto and the longer he waits to fight him, the harder its going to be.

Cotto is not even in his prime yet, and Mayweather is slowly but surely going to lose his lighting speed ala Roy Jones. We'll see what happens, and I can't wait.

Who has Cotto beat to grant respect?

I don't think there's not denying Cotto's skill set (IMO) ... but as far as giving Floyd a tough fight ... its no different from Corrales fans, Hatton fans, DLH fans, Gatti fans, and Hernandez fans ... every fighter that Floyd faces has a chance of beating him or giving him his toughest fight - but at the end of the day that man is still the best fighter in the world. He's more accomplished than Cotto ...

    What champion did he dethrone?

All he's done is won 2 vacant belts and beat guys who would either be sparring partners for Floyd or tune-up fights in between weight class jumps. I call them fillers ... its good for confidence boosters but Floyd has been a champion for 10years and has fought in over 18 champion fights and has dethroned 6 champions ...

Why does it have to be one or the other ... in anticipation of the fight it has divided the boxing community and every day a new thread is started either discrediting Mayweather, calling him a coward, or saying that Cotto will beat him.

Here you go fitz. do you think this thread has discredited floyd? i definitely do not believe i said anything to that nature. Anyways, to answer your question. Cotto's victory over Mosley and Quintana are enough to garner some respect.

As far as dethroning champions, we all know that Floyd beating the "lineal champ" in Baldomir was nothing special. I give him a little bit of props for Hatton. I giveCotto and Floyd the same props for Zab. Cotto gets more respect for the Mosley victory than floyd over DLH.

But it's all subjective. If you really believe that Cotto hasn't EARNED respect, then you dont know much about boxing.

This thread is dead wrong. I cant count how many times did I see that Cotto whoops floyd.. Way more then vice versa. I bet it is a Cotto fan that started this hot ****...lol By the way. Its an even fight. Cotto is just down right scary at welter weight with his speed accuracy and his confidence is through the roof. He is going to be a hard guy to beat for ANYBODY.

I dont mean this is true about all Floyd fans. I'm specifically talking about the ones who think FLoyd would steamroll Cotto and everyone else.

    Its aimed at me?

because I don't think that Cotto stands a chance ... I think that stylistically he doesn't match up ...

I don't think at any time in Cotto's career he will able to beat FLoyd ... he may make it competitive for a few rounds but by the mid point of the fight the difference in talent and experience will show and the ref or Cotto's corner will stop the fight.

I disagree totally .. cotto fan act as though cotto will just break floyd down and KO him in somewhere like the 5th, al the while floyd is running around the ring like Tina Turner with Cotto Ike on his ass.

I will put my two cents in this thread "time" is everything in life one or two years ago I will pick Floyd today is different a young lion claiming his territory so in essence the longer they wait the worst for Floyd you could see the more improved and confident Cotto honing his skills developing a new weapon his very effective jab he looks like having fun out there a rare combination of speed and power you could credit him for using the new Everlast high tech new shoes.

I've noticed Cotto fans are sometimes irrational and they like to insult. They lack civility or politeness -only some, not all.

Mayweather could beat Cotto. Cotto could beat Mayweather. It's all probabilities and everything else is speculation. My opinion is that Mayweather would beat Cotto, not easily but it wouldn't too hard. I don't see a KO happening, but maybe a knockdown.
