Dillian Whyte closer to WBC title shot

    This Uysk win over AJ and the impending rematch means that the winner of Fury/Wilder III will have to push back full unification until after Uysk/AJ II is complete.

    Had AJ won and gone on to unify against AJ/Wilder a 2 fight deal there would lock up 2022.

    Now Dillian or Otto for a shot at the WBC title in the meantime.

    Will be Otto, which kind of sucks because we have already seen Wallin-Fury.

    Otto gave Fury a pretty good fight albeit largely from that cut.

    It would be worth running back again, much like the two Ortiz-Wilder fights.

    Fury to stop Wilder - Wilder goes incognito to duck the Joshua fight.
    Whyte to stop Wallin.
    Usyk beats Joshua again in a very similar fashion.
    Parker beats Hrgovic.
    Ruiz beats Ortiz.

    And then we get a combination of fights from the 215lb - 235lb fighters.

    Wallin boxes Whyte's ears off and stops him late. I just scanned over Whyte's resume, and he has faced as a pro exactly ZERO southpaws, Otto is a terrible one to pop his southpaw cherry with.

    That is hard to wrap my head around. How could they let him get this far without getting a lefty under his belt.

    Damn good question, I was sitting racking my brain and couldn't think of any, so I brought up Boxrec and did a fighter by fighter rundown just to make sure, not a southpaw in sight. I even looked up Ante Verunica on YouTube, since he was the only fighter whose stance wasn't listed, but... he was orthodox too. I wonder if his handlers are even aware of this? Eddie Hearn has never been the brightest bulb in the batch when it comes to matchmaking, maybe this was just another one of his poorly thought out glaring oversights.

    That's wild that Whyte's never fought a Southpaw! :eek:

    I'm on the fence now... but if Whyte has anything left to offer at heavyweight, he beats Wallin. As limited as Whyte is, he can still crack. Wallin will be charging forward, so I'm sure he's going to be there to hit.

    I'm not sure that Wallin has the hands to put Whyte down either... if Wallin couldn't crack Granat (stopped by Dimitrenko) or Breazeale, I'm not holding my breath.

    I favour Wallin. Better skills, similar size plus a bit of height, solid defence, solid chin, decent footwork, and a southpaw. Whyte can bang but he doesn't land in every fight and I feel Wallin's chin and defensive responsibility will neutralise it. Scorecards might be a problem.

    Whyte is mainly a lead hook guy, that's his money punch, so a good Southpaw could really give him lots of problems.

    Yup Eddie Hearn and his rematch clauses gauranteeing Whyte will always remain the #1 mandatory to the WBC. First fight with Povetkin was an elliminator, which means the winner is the #1 mandatory for the title. Unless of course you're Eddie Hearn and slip in a rematch clause in case he loses, which totally defeats the purpose of an elliminator in the first place. Of course the corrupt WBC was all too happy to take Eddie's money and go along with it instead of putting a stop to that absurdity.

    Now let's see how Eddie plans to keep Whyte in the mix for the WBC after Wallin knocks him out. Probably another rematch clause. Maybe help him catch Covid and give him only a month or two to recover.
