This was more entertaining than the press conference and weigh in. However if Whyte loses tomorrow he will never get the chance to fight for a WBC title again no matter what

There's no question that Wilder had his fair share of soft defences but between March 2018 and October 2021, it's arguable than no one in the sport of boxing fought stronger and more dangerous competition than Wilder. Whyte may not have even been one of Wilder's 5 most dangerous fights: Whyte has 1 KO against his 9 best opponents and needed the officials to help him to win fights on several occasions. He would not have got such favours against Wilder in America, quite the opposite in fact.

Whyte is tailor-made for Wilder: slow feet, very hittable, weak chin, prone to gassing. Decent skills, range and power but nothing special, he would have tried his best in fairness but heart typically only gets you so far. The fight didn't happen because 1. Whyte is a Matchroom fighter, who PBC and the WBC don't like doing any favours for and 2. for some reason there was a lot of mutual hostility between Wilder and Whyte. Had Whyte switched from Matchroom to PBC as Ortiz did, he probably would have got the fight. Whyte was just a pawn (though he did himself no favours for by publicly biting the hand that he wanted to feed him) that Hearn wanted to use to get the WBC belt from Wilder so he could set up an all-Matchroom undisputed, though it's more likely that Whyte would have taken the hit for AJ. After Povetkin-Price, Hearn wanted to chisel Povetkin out of a title shot by having him fight Whyte instead of AJ, so this bodyguard function has precedent.

Whyte also turned down a title shot and payday against AJ but it's all academic now anyway: Whyte is getting a title shot and a base purse of £5.6 million. This would not have happened at all if he'd had to go to the back of the queue after Povetkin sparked him at home in what Hearn referred to as a "final eliminator", so he should count his blessings.

It always amazes me that there are still some plonkers on this board arguing against Whyte in favour of the WBC in this situation.
Luckily, I brought the receipts from q4 2016 to q4 2018. And we all know the shenanigans continues beyond that:

Below is a detailing of the events relevant to Whyte’s mandatory position (I could go in more detail on general WBC corruption, but it’s not relevant here):

DEC 2016: Whyte v Chisora 1 is an eliminator for the WBC title. – Whyte wins

Dillian Whyte defeats Dereck Chisora in thrilling heavyweight contest - BBC Sport

DEC 2016: Joshua v Molina – Joshua wins, Molina fails a UKAD drug test, UKAD investigation begins. ***remember this for later

US boxer Eric Molina banned for two-years after failing post-fight drugs test after Anthony Joshua knockout (thesun.co.uk)

DEC 2016: Stiverne and Povetkin are due to fight for Interim Title (+ the chance to become Wilder’s first mandatory). First Stiverne and then Povetkin fail drug tests.

Stiverne fails drug test but fight with Povetkin still on - The Ring (ringtv.com)

December 2016: Don King lobbies the WBC to make Stiverne the Interim Champion without fighting anyone.

Don King To WBC: Declare Stiverne Champion ⋆ Boxing News 24

December 2016: Rumours that Whyte will fight Bermaine Stiverne in a final eliminator.

    WBC ranking end of 2016:

    Rankings-CMB-Diciembre-2016.pdf (boxeodecolombia.com)

    So… ENTERING 2017

We have Whyte on track to challenge for the WBC title having won an eliminator. Wilder (PBC) hasn’t faced a mandatory in his first two years as Champion. Povetkin has failed a drug test. Stiverne has failed a drug test. Molina has failed a UKAD drug test, but the information is yet to be published.

FEBRUARY 2017: After lobbying from Don King the WBC install Stiverne as Interim champion and then make him Wilder’s mandatory challenger, ignoring Stiverne’s failed drug test, and not requiring Stiverne to fight a WBC final eliminator against one of Ortiz or Whyte (which fans were expecting). Again, note Whyte won a WBC title eliminator in 2016.

FEB 2017: Dillian Whyte (WBC #4) calls out Dominic Breazeale (WBC #11) for Silver title fight.

JULY 2021: Whyte’s team makes a third offer to fight Wilder, but Stiverne’s mandatory status may prevent it

Hearn Still Pressing To Make Deontay Wilder vs. Dillian Whyte - Boxing News (*******.com)

AUGUST 2017: Stiverne (WBC#1), the WBC interim belt holder and mandatory challenger, announces that he will make an interim title defence against Breazeale (WBC #11) on the undercard of Wilder v Ortiz.

NOTE: Breazeale (WBC#11 following his win against Ugonoh) was drafted in as a guy for Stiverne to beat in a tune-up fight after Stiverne was forced to step aside for Luis Ortiz by the WBC. Remember Whyte (WBC#4) had already won his title eliminator 8 months earlier. The WBC will now start nudging up Breazeale’s ranking month by month.

OCT 2017: Stiverne installed as mandatory to fight Wilder. Note, Stiverne has not fought in 2 years, will now be elevated to be Wilder’s mandatory challenger.

Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz OFF: Bermane Stiverne steps up as Dillian Whyte misses out | Boxing | Sport | Express.co.uk

OCTOBER 2017: Instead of Breazeale (PBC) fighting Whyte on the undercard, the WBC allows Breazeale to choose his opponent for his title eliminator. Breazeale chooses Eric Molina (PBC)! The same Eric Molina (PBC) who is now serving a UKAD ban. *** remember this, it will be important later.

OCT 2017: Molina’s UKAD ban begins

US boxer Eric Molina banned for two-years after failing post-fight drugs test after Anthony Joshua knockout (thesun.co.uk)

OCT2017: Breazeale (WBC#6) v Molina (WBC#12) press release has this as a Final Eliminator. The media are shocked by this, questioning the WBC. Note Breazeale, month by month has been nudged up from WBC #11 to #6. lol

The WBC change their website from “final eliminator” to “eliminator” following the backlash.

OCT 2017: Whyte will fight Helenius for Silver title:

Dillian Whyte to fight Robert Helenius Oct. 28 in Joshua-Pulev co-feature - The Ring (ringtv.com)

NOV 2017: Wilder v Stiverne, in Wilder’s first mandatory defence. 1st round KO of the morbidly obese Stiverne, who throws 4 punches.

NOV 2017: Breazeale v Molina, Breazeale wins the title eliminator.

Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz agreed for March 3 in Brooklyn, NY ⋆ Boxing News 24

So end of 2017… we have Dillian Whyte (who has been chasing a fight with Wilder all year) who has won a WBC title eliminator and Dominic Breazeale who has won a WBC title eliminator. Everyone is now expecting Whyte v Breazeale as a final eliminator to become Wilder’s mandatory challenger.

March 2018, WBC rewrite history and claim Breazeale fought Molina in a Final Eliminator bout and make him the Mandatory challenger to fight Deontay Wilder.

STATUS OF THE WBC HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION – World Boxing Council (wbcboxing.com)

April 2018: WBC instead of ordering Whyte v Breazeale in a final eliminator, they order a fight for “second mandatory” between Whyte and Ortiz (note: Ortiz was just KO’d by Wilder in March 2018).

Dillian Whyte-Luis Ortiz eliminator ordered as WBC provides title status updates (espn.com)

May 2018: Hearn calls out the nonsense blocking Whyte from ever fighting Wilder:

October 2018: It appears we may get Whyte v Ortiz, after Ortiz rejected an offer to fight in the summer:

Honestly, it is what it is. They have had him on the proverbial carrot on a string for 5 years. In retrospect he is likely kicking himself for not staying the course with the IBF, but then again, who could have expected being WBC#1 in q4 2017 and not getting a shot at their title until 2022?! The other problem he has is the WBO are getting ever more entwined with the WBC, so that route might also be closed to him; not that being WBO#1 helped him much once Usyk moved up.

Life lessons: Don't put all your eggs in one corrupt organization's basket.

WBC is the worst organisation in the world. Bad history of being too influenced by Don Rat King.

Well, that, and also Fury is the better man.

    But yeah, he should focus.

Suliman's expression when Whyte called him on not getting a title fight earlier spoke volumes. Whyte also came off more confident in his ability to beat Wilder than Fury.

Despite Whyte not being all clean in this too, he's absolutely right on Sulaiman screwing him over bigtime.

Whyte has been the #1 contender for the WBC belt for years and there either was no mandatory fight for Wilder, or he got surpassed for the mandatory by Stiverne coming of a 2 year layoff after getting a gift against Rossy, and Breazeale of all people. All to make sure that Wilder had home advantage every time and didn't have to fight difficult mandatories.
And then when finally getting his shot after 4½ years, the purse split gets changed from WBC vs Interim WBC 55/45 to like if he was some complete nobody fighting an absolute superstar (80/20).
Whyte is an ass, but he's totally right about Sulaiman and his obviously corrupt antics.

    Suleiman: "But the pandemic"
Whyte: "I fought twice during pandemic!"
(Yes, yes, knocked clean out cold in one of those fights, Dillian.)

Hope Whyte find happiness now after all his complaining. Overpaid average heavyweight he should thank his God for all the money he made with so little ability and achievement. Thanks God and Eddie Hearn.

If only he'd gone after Fury with this much fervour in the actual fight, instead of simply turning up to cash a cheque.

I can have no sympathy for Whyte. The WBC are snakes but no one in boxing ever said they weren't. Whyte also always had good options. Whyte was offered AJ fight by Hearn for 3 world belts in 2019. ALSO lots of millions of British pounds. Whyte refused the offer. Made excuses. In meantime his average talent ass sold to PPV in UK against Oscar Rivas another average, positive drugs test exposed, they tried to cover it up. Big lawyers sorted it for Dillian within few months but Dillian cried like it was not fair. 2020 "final final eliminator" he lost to Povetkin by KO but it appears it was only final eliminator if Whyte wins, they got chance to rematch with forced contract. This is not a victim fighter. This is a spoiled fighter.
2022 more complaining even when purse bid produced huge payday and huge opportunity for him. Most overpaid boxer ever.

    He is

The WBC is a Mexican organization - people don't think there are cartels involved in such a huge company that oversees a large part of boxing in Mexico itself, let alone in America and other parts of the world?
