Dillian Whyte headlining PPVS

It does bug me that PPV star Whyte can’t even keep himself in good shape. He is in his prime yet giving Andy Ruiz a race to the buffet

 

Yeah, I understand that may have been "the ideal" ...... but if he beat Joshua (and £7 million), the rubber match would be HUGE (50% of sheds loads = £XX millions) .... and win that one and the unification with Wilder/Fury would be huge (£XXX millions ?).

He turned down a real dream opportunity, on the gamble that he might tread the road to an even better (absolutely ideal) one.
And he's probably been regretting it ever since Ruiz beat AJ.

 

Exactly.
The reason he turned down a dream opportunity really boils down to that.
In the "worse possible scenario" he never gets a shot ............ and gets to fight second-raters of highly-hyped PPVs and scoop the lion's share ..... which makes me wonder how much he really wants Wilder or Joshua anyway ??

 

This always makes me laugh. If people are willing to pay it , then he’s a PPV star ? That’s how it works. I could say I don’t like Wilder, he’s done nothing to prove he’s a great fighter - but is he a PPV star? His PPV fights have done good numbers from what I see so yes he is.

It’s like saying how can pubs in London justify Charing £6 a pint? Well if people are still buying it.......

 

Exactly that pal. If they were charging £60 a pint would you still hand over your money and moan about it? Or is that just at six quid a pint. Personal choice.

 

The people are not in increasing numbers hence the significant shrinking of the bar population seen all over the UK in the past 10 years.

 

He's already lost once to AJ. I think he saw the weakness in Wilder and wanted to fight him first, get the strap and that would guarantee 2 big money fights for undisputed.

 

Nah he turned it down because he was mid cycle.

 

You're not getting it mate. I can turn around and say look at the fighters hes been in the ring with and the exciting fights Whyte has been in - Joshua, Chisora x2, Parker. That justifies him being a PPV star. You might think it’s sub standard ****, others won’t think so and will buy it and justify it being on PPV. If it flops horrendously it’ll be a laughing stock, let’s be honest we both know it’ll do good numbers.

 

To be fair Eh Day can sell anything these days as he understands the triggers that reel in the cohort of thick PPV mugths time and time again.

World class selling skills, proven phrases repeated on different fighters, bit of fake beef and scripted acting - the PPV mugths are then reeled in like a drug addict to an addictive substance.

Rinse and repeat every 3 months.

 

It annoys me that if you beat Parker you must be a good boxer, the fact is Parker just isn't world level, lost to Ruiz, lost to AJ, lost to Whyte, lost to Hughie fury!!! Parker is not a great yard stick, nice fella no way is he ever a world class heavyweight, before everybody replies with oh AJ and Ruiz are / were unified champions they are both average in a poor division and the fact Whyte barely beat Parker and lost badly to AJ proves Whyte is nothing more than a punch bag, as soon as he fights somebody with a bit of pedigree he loses, wouldn't surprise me if old man povetkin stops him in 6 rounds.

Which is all a bit strange in itself, almost like he wasn't confident in beating AJ and not particularly eager to avenge the loss. The rematch with AJ was virtually his sole stated objective throughout 2016, 2017, into 2018, and there was all that talk about "we should fight 2 or 3 times before our careers are done" coming from both sides ..... then somewhere it became ALL about Wilder first.
Very odd turnaround coming from a supposed warrior as Whyte is.

Anyway, I'm not complaining. AJ-Ruiz happened and was more than satisfactory.

 

Exactly. It’s economics. If pubs could sell a pint for £4 and be better off then they would...likewise with PPV. More people might watch if it was free but it obviously makes less money.
