He isn't going to make waves in the US but in the UK he won't be finished because the competition is dire.
Shocking Will probably be at the £24.95 price too. Does anyone actually rate Whyte as a top level fighter ? Like, don’t get me wrong, he’s okay, will never win a world title (well a proper one anyway) yet he’s earned millions from the game. Quite amazing really
Hold on, so SKY signing some matchroom fighters to fight on their platform I thought all of Hearns fighters bar AJ and Whyte were part of the deal? He said this didnt he?
They’re not signed to matchroom. It’s been done a million times on here but there’s very few who are actually on long term contracts with Matchroom bar AJ. Even Whyte is on a fight by fight, so most fighters are free to move wherever, whenever. I did notice though that after their “title” wins, Galahad and Leigh Wood were both announced to have signed multi fight agreements with Matchroom. I think now with the move to DAZN this might be the new strategy moving forward or even feeling threatened by Sky/Wasserman stealing fighters so they’re trying to tie down as many as they can.
Going to Sky will always be an attraction. Hearn will have to pay very well or there'll be an exodus like Warren had from Boxnation and Hearns had in the US. I remember when Bellew was with Warren, he fought Danny macintosh on Sky and made a big fuss about how good it was. I think he then joined Hearn. I don't think it'll cave in like Boxnation did but Hearns stable will get smaller. I think it will even up with DAZN, BT and Sky having a third each.
Everyone has access to Sky, whether it’s through their own subscription, a friend or family member, or just being able to go down the local pub. Really can’t see many UK fighters wanting to fight on an American streaming app. Think Hearn has overestimated his own popularity believing he’s bigger than Sky. More than that though, he’s a control freak who couldn’t handle the fact he couldn’t fully control Sky boxing.
That argument only holds weight if sky were matching or offering anything close to what DAZN are paying him. You can't say he thinks his bigger than sky when all he has done is go with the broadcaster that offered the best deal. It would have been foolish to turn down that offer. Tbh I have no idea why DAZN are ready to put so much money in boxing when the sport doesn't have that many superstars but for some reason they are. Hearn just did what every other promoter would do and took the money
Hearn trying to get Chisora v Parker 2 on before the end of the year, Might try and get them on the same date.
