One of the fights I posted was Josh Taylor-Regis Prograis and another (here or elsewhere on this board) was Donaire-Inoue, which took place in October and November last year.

Boxing is filled with fighters where one fighter's eye is swollen shut. They are getting punched in the face. It happens. Swelling can happen when a bone is cracked. It can happen when one isn't.

Taylor's orbital bone wasn't cracked. Inoue's was. They both won. Because they are fighters.

This guy's eye was closed, and he quit, and before anyone knew what had happened, everyone who had picked Dubois was going "well, he could lose an eye!" (Like that is an everyday occurance now with a swollen eye.)

No medical professional had said anything like that. His eye was swollen shut, like THOUSANDS of boxers before him. You either choose to fight on, or not. He "chose" not to. He wasn't knocked out. He quit.

And Dubois even said he hopes to be back in the ring in a couple months. So he certainly isn't freaking blind. He just wanted out.

You guys want to bring up every worst case scenario you can to give him a pass, when the truth is of all the thousands of heavyweights you've watched in the last 100 years, particularly since the advent of the thumbless glove, how many went blind from a swollen eye?

Hell, name ONE. People keep going "Kell Brook this" and "Kell Brook that" ... Kell Brook just fought, and HIS EYES are fine. He isn't blind, either.

Jesus. Dubois got BEAT UP. His eye was shut. It's a fight. People swell up in fights. If you choose to "quit," then you "quit."

Most people with swollen eyes DO NOT quit. Most BEG for the fight to continue.

If Dubois is so terrified of getting a bad eye, like in your scenario, then don't choose a profession where you get punched in the goddamn face for a living.

That's why this quit is a big deal. Dubois has only beaten up others in his career. He didn't get pummeled in the amateurs. He's only been on the side where he dishes out the punishment.

The first time serious punishments comes his way, he bailed. That doesn't bode well. It leads me to believe he was more of an athlete who took up fighting than he is an actual "fighter."

Fighters tend to want to keep fighting, even when the fight is lost.

Injuries happen in boxing, like they do in every contact sport. No one who competes wants to get hurt, but they know they will. If the first time your eye swells you panic, then punching power, muscles and record aside, this probably isn't the sport for you.

On top of that, Dubois was making fun of a blind woman the other day. Karma is a *****.

Look you've made some fair, reasonable comments. So have I and others here. And, yes I'm well aware of the history of boxing. I'm sure you're aware that in the current/ recent era they stop fights sooner than they did generation(s) ago. Like you suggest, maybe DD doesn't have "it" when he's receiving more than dishing it out. We'll see in his future fights.

My takeaway on all this - you had some $ on DD and you're

I don't bet but I'm a bit peeved too ! I liked the price on JJ and if I was going to bet I'd have raked in some $ on that fight

(LOL) I didn't bet on Daniel Dubois. I don't bet. I thought it was a good fight and a good win for Joyce.

The "he could go blind" excuses just got about waist deep last night for a guy who finally got his first black eye ... so I decided to remind people that boxers get swollen eyes all the time.

The bully got punched back and quit on Saturday. That's all. It's an old story.

Professional boxers on both sides of the Atlantic called it the same way.

Comments like these ones Whyte is making about Dubois have a habit of coming back to haunt people sooner or later. I mean, you'd think Whyte would've learned his lesson after he belly laughed on a video about Wilder getting "beat up so bad" by Fury, only to get starched by one uppercut against Povetkin soon afterwards and then not hang out for Povetkin to get his hand raised or congratulate Povetkin.

If there's one major thing Whyte lacks it's any sort of class whatsoever.

Whyte is unconscious before the thought of quitting even has a chance to enter his mind. Classless idiot
