To be perfectly honest, it wouldnt surprise me if Whyte fought him anyway. He headlines PPV's now, hes a decent money spinner in his own right. Like he said, Breazeale, Chisora or Miller is next, all 3 are risky fights. Breazeale makes the most sense at this stage, and builds his earning power for Joshua 2.
The thing is, Whyte doesn't take easy fights. If an 'easier' opponent gets put in front of him, he will fulfil his contract, but he'd rather Wilder/Joshua. It's no surprise that fights like Whyte v Parker, two top 5 HW's at the time, with little to gain for the winne, don't ever happen.....given the limited credit they got.
That's right. But interestingly, the loser can drop way down in the overall scheme of things. But that's the reason we see top contenders usually fighting the B grade heavies. For the amount of $$$ they're paid, that's the risk level they are willing to take. Consider Povetkin.....been around forever and has been a top ranked heavy for more than a decade. Ex champion. But lets say he loses the 22nd to Joshua. He'll drop to like 7th or worse, by all the governing bodies. On the outside looking in. They'll have guys like Miller and Jennings ranked higher.
