Please. He couldn't even put 38 year old John Ruiz's head in row Z, even with a barrage of behind the head punches. Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz, Chisora, Harrison, de Mori and Gjergjaj. That's a comical line up of heavyweight wins. It just shows how great of a salesman Haye was to dupe so many people. A good cruiserweight and not very much at heavyweight, that's for sure.
I agree that Haye’s career at heavyweight was a lot of smoke and mirrors but there’s been similar with Whyte’s career. Plus, we watched Whyte go life and death with Chisora twice, whereas Haye showed how a gatekeeper should be dealt with by starching Chisora in 5 rounds. I don’t think Whyte would have dealt with Valuev as well as Haye did either.
Whether Whyte would have dealt with Valuev as well as Haye is guesswork - regardless, Haye hardly dealt with Valuev well, did he? He didn't even do as well as a 46 year old Holyfield who got robbed. What is there to remember from that bout except one punch from Haye? Guesswork aside, Whyte has dealt with Chisora twice, Parker, Helenius, Rivas, Browne and Wach. Nobody is claiming that this is a Lennox Lewis resume and if the forum could put aside its prejudice toward Whyte for 30 seconds, his resume should be acknowledged as one of the best in heavyweight boxing currently and he has built it within the last 4 years. Although there will be more losses to come, there will be more solid wins, because unlike many he doesn't mind a competitive fight. I'll also add that Usyk didn't knock out a gatekeeping Chisora in 5 rounds, but as long as Usyk gives himself a few years at heavyweight, he will also have a better heavyweight career than Haye.
He didn’t deal with Parker bud. He hung on for dear life at the end and got a favour off the ref in the form of a 3 point swing in the 2nd round. He got put on his backside against Rivas in a fight that arguably shouldn’t have even gone ahead. The first Chisora fight was 50/50 on who won and he was losing the 2nd until he pulled the KO out the bag (credit where it’s due). He followed Helenius all around the ring who was dreadful that night and the performance against Wach was terrible. So imo Whyte’s heavyweight career has been smoke and mirrors too, entertaining but not all that. The two proper world class opponents he’s faced absolutely starched him and bear in mind, one was still green and the other shot to pieces.
I agree with a lot of you've posted in this thread but it's a massive stretch to say that Whyte "dealt with" Chisora and Parker. The first Chisora fight was neck-and-neck. The fight could have been scored three ways. I had it to Chisora personally and one of the big things in that fight that is overlooked is that Chisora had a legitimate claim for KD rejected in that final round: This content is protected I've timestamped this video. It cannot be disputed, Whyte was clearly held up by the ropes there otherwise he would have fallen out of the ring. So had that KD been scored it would have been even clearer on most people's cards. As Twentyman said, the only comparator we have between Haye and Whyte is Chisora, and Haye knocked a fresher Chisora out in five rounds on the back of a career best performance by Chisora against Klitschko. Then the Parker fight was marred by farcical refereeing since one of the two KDs scored by Whyte was instigated by a clear, brutal head clash. And yet again Whyte was hanging for dear life in the final round and on a lot of people's cards a draw could have been a fair result. I would hardly describe that as Whyte "dealing with" Parker. In fact I'd even go as far as to say that as boring and negative as the fight was, Hughie Fury probably won a more convincing win on my card against Parker than Whyte. It's pointless comparing the two since they will never fight and never did fight. But I think it's clear that a prime version of Haye would be a nightmare for a prime version of Whyte due to Whyte's propensity to get KTFO.
We all know Haye's heavyweight career was underwhelming. We also know Haye is a glorious salesman. However, if you think a fully fit Haye doesn't upend Whyte, like he did Chisira - who has a better chin than Whyte - you're in denial.
I like Whyte and I think he would fight anyone, but his resume gets really overrated. Are Browne, Wach or shot Helanius among his best wins? Haye is too fast for him IMO and would knock him out like he did Chisora.
The state of Whyte in that first fight at the end, he's always been wild, like a kebab shop fighter, a chicken corner brawler. I'm glad Povetkin crushed the melon.
The first and last time I was mugged in boxthing was Haye v Klitschko in Hamburg 2011 when I thought I was travelling to watch a war between two great Heavyweights. The 10,000 British fans inside the Imtech Arena thought the same and Haye took some serious stick walking back from the ring to the Dressing Rooms. Big Wlad to his credit thanked the British Fans for travelling and for the great atmosphere generated in the stadium/weigh-in at the Karstad Sports Shop. Once suckered like that, it leaves you very cynical when you see the antics of puddings such as Chisora and the Toe v Bellew confest.
Whenever I see clips of Whyte’s old fights I ask myself what the **** is he eating now. Guys getting softer and softer each time out. He’s a ‘never was never will be’ whose very comfortable with all his PPV loot in the bank.
Povetkin would be your list of non impressive wins if Whyte would have won. Beating a Parker surely should be counted beating world class opponent
A shot Browne who Chisora knocked out in sparring the week before he fought Whyte. Dont forget most people had Chisora beating Whyte in their first fight. Dave Allen beat Browne alot easier than Whyte did.
Not to mention Ruiz had a much better chin than Whyte and Klitschko would’ve starched Whyte early on too.
It was a shot Povetkin, essentially a blown up Cruiser in his 40s that wasn't as fluid anymore, it was still too much for Gladiator Galia though. Had Whyte won it would have hardly turned heads in the division, Joshua has already proven two years earlier that Povetkin was on the way out, a rather boring struggle with Hunter a year or so later hardly changed any opinions. As time has gone on people are realising that Parker was never really all that. Hughie at around 70 or 80% arguably beat him, he's struggled with average fighters too, like he did with Whyte. That said he had Whyte hanging on for dear life at the end, like a Chicken Corner brawler flying around the window tables at 3am, chips and burgers flying around all over the show. All that after Whyte had gained an advantage and lead on the cards by doing what any Kebab House KO King would do, going in with his head. Whyte has had an alright career, been in some entertaining fights and built a name for himself, Elite or World Level he will never be though, World or Elite level don't get iced by 41 year old blown up Cruisers and if they did they would no longer be World or Elite level. I look forward to watching Whyte Flying around, with little coordination, an octagon in the future. This content is protected
I actually moaned loads about the fight when it was announced. I was on here saying that Whyte would deal with him, that he was shot to ribbons, that he lost to Hunter etc. So you’re right, the scalp of that version of Povetkin would not have impressed me in the slightest. They knew he was shot...but Whyte does like to call out shot fighters like he called out David Haye right after getting bingo’d off Bellew. He wanted easy PPV money for a ‘name’. Parker was not a conclusive victory. Said it so many times now and no doubt people are bored of me saying it.
