Agreed, boxing is a tough game even without unmotivated fighters going through the motions and turning up in terrible snap with the intention of collecting a paycheck.

Pro's fight for money and for adulation (often both). Sadly, a lot of fighters hang around for far too long, trying to claim whetever money and adulation they can. In terms of the former, it's because they've lived beyond their means and have been profligate; in terms of the latter, it's because the adulation they receive from fighting is a drug to them and they don't have the wherewithal to wean themselves off or go cold turkey -- they can't bring themselves to retire, so it usually results in said fighter being mauled and made to retire.

 

Judging by Browne's condition, he didn't want to earn it; but in being ironed out like he was -- by a guy who isn't even considered a puncher -- he was made to earn it.

To reiterate what CST said, sure, if he showed in the best shape possible, Browne might not have won, but at least he could've given it a good go and walked away satisfied with his efforts, both in the preparation and in the fight itself. That way, he wouldn't have been a ***** for his payday in the same way Buster Douglas was against Holyfield.

 

Had they said Hedgehog entrails no one would have batted an eyelid ...

I was very disappointed in Browne, he looked very disinterested in there and like how Oneirokritis said it was like same way Douglas was against Holyfield.

 

Drug testing in UK is a joke. Whyte looks juiced to the gills.

thats true, Lucas was a middling contender in his prime (but never a titlist or title worthy).

 

The only "roadwork" Douglas did in preparing to fight Holyfield was walking to and from his fridge.
