I don't think you understand how promoting and producing events generally works. Smart people don't risk their own money, they borrow it and pay it back with interest.

Hearn has built a cash business where he risks the money he's generated from his own work, but that's it - he's at no personal risk himself. Warren has done it the other way by putting the risk into companies (presumably with some personal guarantee but not a terminal one) then closing them down when the risk went wrong.

I've got a long memory and in the time Matchroom has been promoting boxing the Sky "monopoly" has only existed for a relatively short time - and now it's gone. The current strong position is mostly down to Anthony Joshua - any inspection of Matchroom's cash position over the last 5/6 years would show that. They got incredibly lucky Covid happened just after the big Saudi show because it swelled the coffers and effectively paid for Fight Camp 1.

 

This is way above the head of @Brixton Bomber and he is having an absolutely mare on here today.

 

I do understand it, but you have to risk your own capital at some point. You cannot have Backers for every show you do or your whole career.

I don't think they got lucky. Not every event has to be held in a specific location forever. People who own land rent it out for weddings etc if they have enough of it. Hearn did, and he thought outside of the box instead of every show being at the copper box or York Hall etc.
