Terrible. But Whyte needs to be protected. Now Wlad's gone, if Fury doesn't come back and the Wilder fight can't be made, a Dillian Whyte rematch for AJ might be Hearn's most lucrative option ! Ridiculous as it sounds.
Pointless fight, this won't turn heads for the American audience. Whyte will call out wilder afterwards but nothing will come of it
It's not good but it isn't anything else but just "getting him out" and keeping him active and let's be fair he would (and should) get better sparring but he needs to earn money. I'm not defending it but I understand it, they have plans for Whyte but he can't just sit there waiting, he will have bills to pay and wants to keep himself active and relevant and it's a fight in the US on the Crawford Indongo bill so it might help improve his profile a little bit. Omg I'm starting to sound like Eddie Hearn.. apples and pears.
It's like these people are completely oblivious to the history of boxing. It's always been common place for contenders to take these kind of low level tune ups to stay busy... If said fighter has and is shown the tendency to fight live bodies then there shouldn't be any backlash. Whyte is the last guy who deserves this kind of criticism... His last fight was Chisora - a top 20 HW in a FOTY contender, 12 months or so before that he fought Joshua. Point being he's shown less reluctance than most contenders today to step in with top guys. He deserves a pass for this.
Wilder refuses to fight Whyte................tell Whyte to drink a bottle of wine, get the reputation of being a wino from the alley and only then would Wilder fight him.........
I'm certainly not oblivious to the history of boxing I'm well aware of the point of stay busy fights and the need to project a fighter etc etc but these proposed fights against Grant and now Tann are absolutely 100% risk free. Tann was out of the game for 9 years ffs! At least have an opponent in there who is just a little bit competitive.
As long as he fights someone good next I don't begrudge him a tune up. After this, he does have options. The Chisora rematch, Breazeale, Miller are all good fights for Whyte imo.
If it's a tune up, that's fine. If he fights someone good in a couple of months, that's good. Otherwise, it's not so good. And that's not a criticism of Whyte, but of whoever handles his career.
I think he was genuinely retired. He said he walked away after two losses and had been fighting with an injured arm, and now that's healed. Interview here : http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Henderson/Benny_100815.htm
I agree, also I have to add if this was on a Saturday fight night on Sky I would go in and slaughter it but it isn't. It's down the card in the US. you forgot to mention Whyte injury problems and surgery, and you are correct he has been in some big/very good fights. I see nothing wrong with it, of course we would all like to see a more competitive fight but it is what it is.
