He was a National Super Feather Champion, a WBO Light weight Champion and a WBC Super middle Champion. He finished his career at Light heavy with 14 defeats. How do we record his feat in history?
He was a short lived titlist catching someone alright fighters on their way out...And that pretty much reflects the kind of fighter he was at 135. He had a pretty patchy record after that until he settled at 168 and the fact he was able to bag a title there is certainly commendable. But at the same time perhaps is an indication of the weakness of the division at the time..particularly the lineage of that title. Tough, tough guy though..he was only ever stopped, not knocked out in the fights Ive seen him not make the final bell..basically he was just taking to many clean shots. He took some wicked punishment from an up and coming Kessler but was there at the end. His weight jumping is worth some kudos...I wouldnt call him a legend as my criteria for a term like that is pretty hard but he was certainly a deserving world champion.
His last second knock out of Glenn Catley to win the WBC Super Middleweight Title was wicked! WAR Thobela!!! This content is protected
He was a cheating **** in that fight. His gloves were blatantly loaded. And I'm not the type to say such things.
Actually he was super slick when he was at lightweight.Great jab and great movement.Check out the first Lopez bout. People said getting him to train was the biggest problem and he had a party lifestyle.
