Right. I think your understanding of the fight is somewhat off the mark. It was a messy bout with lots of awkward situations. Carl Froch was throwing non stop, and as agile as Andre Dirrell was, he couldn't avoid all of it. Maybe he should have got the nod, but there was no way he was controling the fight the way you imply. I googled some pics for you. Please note the poor positioning of Andre. He's a great athlete but as a technician he is so-so, which was why Carl could get to him: Typical jab landed by Carl. Andre sees the punch but fails to get away: https://www.google.se/search?q=Carl...F19%2Fcarl-froch-andre-dirrell-boxing;460;276 Carl landing a left jab to the body, Andre takes it while looking confused: http://www.google.se/imgres?imgurl=...9UzVf7NMsecsgHwlYFg&tbm=isch&ved=0CHMQMyhIMEg Carl landing a right hand shot, while Andre struggles to get away. Significant for the whole fight: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Iz4PT7A6P6g/St7FY5djr_I/AAAAAAAACd8/ypYqvrw7zV8/s1600-h/FrochDirrell9.jpg Both fighters closing their eyes and misses simultaneously. The referee looks like he wants to shake his head Also significant for the fight: https://www.google.se/search?tbm=is...hoto-gallery-carl-froch-vs-andre.html;512;340 Carl with a left hook: https://www.google.se/search?tbm=is...hoto-gallery-carl-froch-vs-andre.html;640;427 Andre landed the crisper combos, and he avoided a lot. So you can give him the rounds based on effective aggression and superior defence. But you can also make a case of giving the rounds to Carl based on more punches landing. Because Carl was landing. EDIT: fixed the links.
I thought Dirrell won the fight, but he didn't really engage Froch, and he was the challenger for the title. Not saying that's a good reason, but it's how boxing works - you have to go out and win the bout.
I really appreciate the effort you've gone to here. But what's the point in posting stills when we can watch the whole fight, or brief highlights of it? The stills don't tell us anything. They're split second shots from a 36 min fight, that can be interpretated in different ways. You need to know what's happened just prior to the shot, and what happens afterwards. I respect you a lot as a poster, and I really enjoy our debates. But in the amount of time it's taken for you to keep replying and posting stills, you could have just rewatched the fight. It doesn't make sense to me that people are continuously posting on this thread, but are saying they wouldn't watch it again because it was boring or awful etc. Because it's not boring if you're an*lysing it to try and prove a point in a thread. If you're watching it for a specific purpose, it actually becomes interesting. That's what I found anyway. I watched it Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. :good
Honestly, it wasn't that much of an effort. Perhaps 10 minutes of work :good The stills pinpoint something you seem to miss out on: On the video of the fight you see Carl punching and Andre move away, so you assume Carl was hitting air all night. Truth is, many times Andre struggled to get away, because his technique is crude, and sometimes he was caught. It may have been those punches that made the judges give Froch rounds, rather than a general urge to do dumb things. Considering the topic of the thread, I think it's highly relevant. That will be the last resort :bart That's true, but this is ESB. Making too much sense will make a poster seem odd. I make sure to take this into consideration when I write some of my posts.
