Here's the boxrec summary. In an exciting Showtime-televised fight which appeared as if it could go either way on the scorecards, Carl Froch remained unbeaten at 26-0 and retained his WBC super middleweight title by split decision over American challenger Andre Dirrell. Froch chased the southpaw Dirrell all night, and threw many punches 'into the wind' as the agile Dirrell constantly moved from side to side and slipped the majority of Froch's punches. Froch moved forward for all twelve rounds as the aggressor throwing many combinations, while Dirrell counterpunched extremely well and landed a number of powerful right hand leads. One point of controversy was that Froch frequently hit Dirrell behind the head, and was warned but not penalized by the referee. Dirrell was warned in the seventh, eighth and tenth rounds before the referee decided to take a point away from him for holding during the tenth. In round twelve, Dirrell was warned by the referee for hitting Froch behind the head, when in fact it was Froch that had just hit Dirrell behind the head. Without the point deduction, the bout would have been closer. Most of these rounds were quiet defensive gems, causing the crowd to boo the lack of action at the end of every round. At the end of round eleven, Dirrell's grandfather told him in his corner "You better knock Froch out because they ain't never gonna give us a decision here." But the hometown crowd was quiet during rounds, so scoring appeared fair. In the post-fight Showtime interview, the previously unbeaten Dirrell conceded he lost round twelve, but looked forward to fighting Arthur Abraham.
Lol "dirrell was warned when in fact it was froch who hit dirrell behind the head".....yup......even reading a summary u can tell dirrell was robbed......simply being an aggressor doesn't win a fight .......dirrell controlled the fight and made it his fight
This site I think has the official score cards so everyone can see what the judges thought. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/sport/...ecards-and-punter-unhappiness-with-primetime/ It's not just their final score cards it's their round by round scoring it's worth a look!
Good assessment. The crowd always boos a lack of action, because most of the crowd can't appreciate the sweet science, as they're casuals. They've been brought up watching the Rocky films where he yells at Clubber Lang "Come on, hit me in the face. Harder!" whilst his hands are by his side. These fans are ignorant. They want two guys blasting each other. They have no appreciation for feints and footwork etc. They don't know what they're looking at. Also, if a guy walks forward and misses and gets countered in return, you can't just give him the round based on aggression. It's a joke. You're supposed to award the round to the better boxer. You award the round to the guy who was in control, who was scoring, and not getting hit back in the process. You can't give a round to a guy just for continuously walking forward and throwing. That's outrageous.
I wasn't at the fight. But if anyone on here went, could you please clarify whether or not you saw three Labradors helping the judges to find their ringside seats.
Froch for embarrasseD for 12 straight rounds. The only competitive times were between rounds, and those were lopaided too
I was being overly generous, including the deduction. I watched it last night and tried to be objective, as I hadn't seen the fight for a long time. I watched the first 7 rounds, before briefly pausing to get myself a drink. As I walked into the kitchen, I thought to myself 'there's no way he won any of those 7 rounds, so we'll see what happens when I resume' I then went back, and nothing much changed until the final bell. Seriously, how can you reward a guy for walking forward and getting hit?
