You are a bit delusional. Name a fight that Dirrell sold BEFORE the tournament? Name a fight that Dirrell sold as the A side DURING the tournament? Name a fight that Dirrell sold as the A side AFTER the tournament? Name a fight that the greatly athletically gifted Dirrell didn't look on the verge of mentally (and even physically vs Abraham) collapsing during the tournament? Right, like we said, Dirrell should build himself up. Dirrell has shown himself to be a wonderful talent. We all want to see more. I think he has also shown that the Super Six might have been a little too much too soon. Honestly, that is what I think the organizers hoped for with Dirrell and Ward. A tune up or two and Super six losers? He will be back on top and quite marketable. I am damn sure still a fan. :good
After Dirrell beat Abraham he was the hottest name in the super six. Him vs Ward was 50/50 to many. Only after injury did people start to hate him. But HBO doesnt care about that, one of the big reasons Showtime was ready to sue Dirrell was because they knew HBO was going after him and Ward. HBO offered Dirrell a contract. It was spoken of before he dropped out of the tournament. HBO wants Ward, Dirrell and Bute under their banner. So who are these big names the winner of Ward or Froch are going to fight? Consider the fact that nobody knows Bute in America. And thati the only way that fight would make money is in Canada or Oakland. Do you see Ward or Bute budging from either home territory? No. So that leaves Kessler who Ward already beat, or Dirrell will probably be coming off 2 fights given the timeline. 2 American olympic medalists. HBO can promote that easy. atsch Dirrell didnt collapse mentally in either fight. He did his best work against Froch after the point deduction, hurt and dominated Froch from round 10 on, and was knocked out illegally against Abraham. Again you people are delusional and dont know how the game works if you think there is going to be anymore "building" up for Dirrell. Dirrell was 50/50 against Ward last year, now he needs to build himself up. atsch Dirrell will have 1 or 2 more fights. Then if there is any friction between Bute or Wards camp on them meeting then its Ward vs Dirrell on HBO sometime late 2012.
You think Froch vs Ward in America. Does better then Ward vs Dirrell in America? Sorry but no. Neither does Kessler. Kessler and Froch are completely unknown to the American public. Seriously what did Froch do againt Glen Johnson? 8 thousand? About what Dirrell did against Abraham. So you are drastically overrating his star power in America. Froch cant even get on tv in the UK for ****sake. atsch Kesslers never going to rematch Ward, because Wards not leaving America. Wards too big for Martinez. Hopkins maybe but Ward would most likely have to move up, and Hopkins is notoriously hard to deal with contractually. Why? Im not saying you're hating on Dirrell. But you should know that boxing doesnt work the way you are implying. Nobody cares about "building a fighter up" What makes the most financial sense are the fights that get made. The only way we get a foreign fighter before Dirrell vs Ward is if Bute leaves Canada or Ward goes to CAnada. Dont see it happening myself.
He needs to fight someone before then. Would say Bute, but Bute is to busy fighting guys just released from Rehab.
Bute would knock Dirrell out!!! Froch scared Dirrell badly, all Dirrell did was run, hold, complain and fall down on canvas which does not win fights! Froch would knock him out in the rematch, but don't forget, Dirrell backed out of his fight with SOB Ward, he was chicken!
Dirrell doesn't want to fight Ward, and Froch doesn't want to fight Dirrell. Direll doesn't deserve either fight right now anyway and I'm sure will take a tune-up before targetting a big name. He's just calling him out to keep his name out there, which has gone to **** recently.
Nah,people hated him before his injury. Theres a reason he was on Showtime and not HBO, the same reason he'll likely be returning on ESPN.
Dirrell has made himself irrelevant thanks to a heady combination of cowardice and lying. In so doing he's managed to alienate (1) all his potential opponents, (2) the fans, and (3) the networks. I'd be amazed if he got a meaningful fight after all this. Seriously - with Kessler, Bute, Ward and Froch in the mix there is simply no need to include Dirrell at all. They can all have re-matches and retire with healthy CVs, Dirrell brings nothing to the table at all. Bute might not have proved himself but at least he is "box office"..... It's a shame because he cleary has / had skills but it's very obvious that his heart isn't in it. Alexander is another.
