I have no idea how anybody can say Froch clearly won the fight, I mean seriously we need to tighten down a bit on these clowns and teach them how to score....
The objective posters all agree that there weren't six 'clear' rounds in the whole fight. Mostly it was just a mess.
He lost because of excessive clinching? But where are Carl's punches at?You dont lose because you didnt fight a pretty fight.
In his division, yes. Now, go shoot yourself. It's quicker and you might miss. Hmm, on second thoughts, get the rope.
Throw an uppercut? Jesus, there's no reason to ever rabbit punch a guy and Dirrell was wide open while trying to clinch. If Froch had any ability whatsoever to throw short punches or fight on the inside he could have taken Dirrell's head off. Froch did NOTHING to make this fight exciting because he didn't have the ability to do so. As someone else said, it takes two to make a boring fight. If Froch didn't have the ability to cut off the ring, fight off a clinch attempt or land anything of consequence when he did have Dirrell in range, or in a corner, then why the **** does Froch deserve the belt. He's every bit as much to blame as Dirrell for it being an ugly fight. The odd thing is he seems to get credit for trying because he's such a poor fighter that trying is all he could do, whereas Dirrell get's penalized for not working to his full potential. I didn't realize that good intentions or wasted talent were scoring categories.
Keeps the analysis simple when confused... The most important criteria in boxing is to hit more than you get hit. Although I didn't like how Dirrell fought for at least 4-5 rounds in the bout, he clearly landed more than he received in most rounds of the fight, therefore its a clear win. PERIOD ! All the running, holding, etc., simply took the focus away for some fans about what matters most in boxing ! There is only 1 set of rules in the book, no matter where the fight is fought, and by those rules, Dirrell clearly won most of the rounds !!
Like I said, it might not be pretty to see, but it doesn't change the fact that hitting more than you get hit means you win the fight... If forward aggression, even with a wide number of punches missing, is all that is needed to win a boxing match, then that would mean DLH won at least 10 rounds against PBF in their fight... See how that makes no sense.... Some Styles fought can be boring or ugly but rules are rules ! You gotta make the difference between the 2 !!!
He landed more and landed the more telling punches in more than half of the rounds. That means he ought to get the nod. There is not criteria for scoring a round against a fighter because it was an ugly round, and really it takes two fighters to make an ugly fight. If Froch had any boxing ability he could have cut off the ring and kept Dirrell in place in the corner, or quickly put a stop to the hugging with some well timed uppercuts. Sadly he is incapable of doing that, so we got an ugly fight that Dirrell won because Froch could not impose his fight. It's funny that people give Froch the nod for ring generalship when all he did was chase Dirrell around the ring and get hit. When PBF did that to Baldomir no one claimed that Baldomir was the one controlling the ring. Froch needed to CUT off the ring, not plod after Dirrell. He didn't. When Dirrell slid across the ropes with his hands up Froch could have made him pay with some hooks to the body but instead he just plodded after him. Dirrell is still plenty green. He has time to develop. What's Froch's excuse for being completely unable to make it a fight with a kid who has never fought at anything close to the World Championship level, supposedly has a suspect chin, and was supposed to get blown out of there by the sheer ferocity of Froch's attack. Dirrell looked ugly at times, but Froch looked just plain awful from bell to bell.
I had Direll winning against Froch 114-113 but still he didn't take the title from Froch through a dominant performance, in America Direll may've won but he could've won by a wider margin if he didn't allow himself to fight Froch's fight for most of the fight.
