Seems like every time Floyd is going into a fight, everyone says he is going to get beat. when he wins everyone discredits his opponents. Can anyone shed some light on this subject in why this is?
Anytime you are on top this happens, not only in boxing, fans want to make a statement for the underdog so that if the upset does happens they look like a expert of the game.
in a funy kind of way it is a sign of the utmost respect. Its the same in team sports when its always the best player on the opposition that recieves the most hostile reception, its because they are feared and people realise just how good they really are and as a result always try and bring down their accomplishmenst. Joe Calazaghe gets the same, Rocky Marciano, bottom line is no-one cpould beat them that they fought and if they are so overarted then why couldnt and average guy beat them? I think in todays world the fact that PBF calls Calzaghe the best fighter he has seen (other then himself) and Joe says the same is far more testament to their real standing in the game then any opinions expressed on here.
This doesn't just happen with Floyd, but pretty much any elite fighter out there. There's always a group of guys after any win who attempt to degrade the victor by claiming his opponent was exposed/shot/limited, etc. Of course, it is rather amusing that so many people on this board were saying before the fight that Hatton was a crap fighter, yet are now pointing to PBF's win over him as a great victory. Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. If Hatton is indeed a crap fighter, Mayweather's win over him means little. Personally, I don't ascribe to such nonsense, but apparently quite a few guys around here do.
wtf are you on about? I predicted a PBF win vs Hatton and so did a bunch of other people (most people)! As for discrediting the oppoenent, I said BEFORE the fight that Hatton wasn't effective at welterweight, and that he needed a ref like Smoger to win or else he couldn't do it. After the fight i didn't say anything. As for ODLH. I also predicted a PBF win and said BEFORE the fight that Oscar had only fought once in the past 32 months against Ricardo Mayorga who was himself shot when Oscar fought him. There was NO WAY someone can fight once in 32 months, work as a promoter during that period, and then come back and put up a competitive fight. I was wrong in my prediction cause Oscar actually did better than I expected.
It's the same answer as to why every time Hatton is going into a fight, some say he is going to get beat and when he wins, the same people discredit his opponents. This is not a Mayweather thing. It's just the way some boxing fans handle things. A bloody stupid way in my book because no-one ultimately deserves any credit that way, but then I'm not them.
I dont think floyd does himself any favors but having watched the 24.7 for hatton and DLH. Plus the fights them self I m now a floyd fan always watched his fights but never really bothered if he won or not. I am sorry to admit I am now a floyd fan.
Calm down Philla. "Some people" does that make you happy? It's a question not a personal challenge to you. It is not that serious. Okay Man?
:huh what? don't take it so personal man i was just replying to yor thread. No personal offence to you and i didn't take it serious at all. You shouldn't try to gauge someone's emotion by the way they type its just a bunch of letters.
You seem right in your perception that most are looking forward for Floyd to lose everytime he fights. Obviously, Mayweather is really an extra ordinary fighter not to easily give in to any fighter who comes in his way. If haters or critics would be realistic, there is really nothing to object with his running style in the ring. Most are just feeling filth on his bad attitude which results for some to pray for him get beat.
That's the way the game is. The better you are - the more they hate. However - Floyd did get a lot of respect for the way he beat down Corrales. They were both undefeated at the time and Floyd put a real ass whoopin on the late great Chico Corrales.
i agree with you 100%. pbf (and everyone else) cherry picks his opponents. he wouldnt take oscar or hatton if they were a real threat. however i was one of the few ppl that knew hatton was a live underdog and was being underestimated. very interesting fight. i give credit to both fighters. but thats why pbf isnt given credit... because he did what he was suppose to do. baldomir, old gatti, zab coming off of a loss, smaller hatton, old oscar. it is what it is. he did what was expected. thats how this sport is.
