That's fair enough, but you're criticising his opposition and then listing other fighters who he could have fought, that contain the names of people like Cordoba and Van Horn. You're being ridiculous.

He didn't miss most of those fighters because he didn't want to fight them all. He missed them because some fights couldn't get made, some fighters like Eubank didn't want to fight him, some fighters like Nunn were fighting at a higher weight, and then he MOVED UP.

    Some of them.

You're riling me up, by clearly implying that Roy avoided all of these fighters and took an easy path. I've explained about Eubank and King etc, but it's not sinking in.

No, but some of them were mandatories, and he tried to get BENN.

    He became mandatory at 175.

Then how did Roy say, **** my legacy, I'll take easy fights, when he'd beaten Toney who was considered the best and he tried to negotiate for Benn?

    And why's that?

Sosa was a good win at the time. Again he couldn't unify, so he moved up. All of your posts are implying that Roy avoided tough challengers, to seek out easy ones. But you're refusing to allow for circumstances.

Jones didn't make a lot of fights for whatever reason (Chin)

He often priced himself out of fights or offered paltry purses to legit contenders (he offered Nunn 100k :rofl:patsch)
Loved to fight Mandatory or handpicked fights on his terms. Made some of the most ridiculous demands also.

We will never know how good he was because he flat out refused to fight the best fighters available to him in his Prime.

It's not as straight forward as that. Some were mandatories, and HBO wanted certain fighters. Guys like Paz for example, he hadn't done a lot at 168 but he was a name. HBO would never have gone out of their way to make a Cordoba or Nardiello fight at the time.

What you're saying is, out of all those names you've listed, Roy sat back and just chose the 5 guys he fought, and said "Right I'll pick him, him, and him etc" That is what you're clearly implying. Boxing doesn't work like that. You've got rankings with different organisations, mandatories, and the imput of HBO etc.

Roy didn't hand HBO a list and say, "Here I want to fight these 5/6 guys."

I get it, and you are clearly implying that Roy chose not to fight them. You're criticising him for missing those guys, when some of the names on the list are a joke and could never be made.

    Van Horn?

Are you talking about Darrin Van Horn?

His last fight at 168 was in 1992. Roy didn't fight there til 93-94.

His last pro fight was in 1994 at 175 pounds.

So HE DIDN'T even fight at 168 when Roy fought there.

That's another one that I've knocked off your list.

    Let me ask you this.

If Roy had've fought Cordorba, Reid, Van Horn, Nardiello etc,

tell me that you wouldn't be ripping him now?

You'd also be on here saying, look at these guys he missed.

    Vinny Paz
    Bryant Brannon
    Tony Thornton
    Merqi Sosa
    Eric Lucas
    Antoine Byrd

    The list is a JOKE!!

I would say yes, and he'd have been a bigger name in America at the time.

Excellent post, Jones HBO paymasters refered to him as 'reluctant Roy'. Jones was also a proven banned steroids user and collapsed like a lawn chair whenever he was faced with adversity :deal

HEADBANGER is a well known troll.
He knows that Roy Jones jr faced adversity against James Toney and Bernard Hopkins who both went on to have amazing careers and beat them easily.
He also knows that Roy Jones jr is the p4p best boxer that ever lived.
He just pretends to think otherwise in order to **** people off.
    Don't feed the troll

Don't know about headbanger, I will let you guys iron out those differences.

He fought Hopkins when both were pre prime prior to either being in a title fight....A great win yes, but don't make it out to be more than it is....Then he spent 17 years avoiding the best challenger Hopkin's, by out pricing the fight....Hopkin's was wise to not take that and bide his timr untill DLH offered him a pay day for the ages.

RJJ is likely not top 20 on any credible list...certainly not top 10...probably closer to top 25...great, yes but again don't over sell it.

It amazing the way people try to belittle Jones for not hvaing these guys on his record.

Its always written on this site that Jones apparently "ducked" them, as if all these fighters were clamouring to get their asses beat by Jones!

EUBANKS HAS OPENLY ADMITTED HE NEVER WANTED TO FIGHT JONES WHEN HE WAS PRIME!

Yet people still bring up "why didnt Jones fight Eubank?"
