The essentials here come with environment and sparring. He’s in a place where he is the biggest noise around and he likes that. He’s deeply insecure and needs reassurance. But it’s to his own detriment because he needs a good slap and told to sort himself out. He’s not entitled to a great career – he needs to earn one.

So first, move him away from home comforts. Go to the US, to Puerto Rico, to Mexico, and train somewhere different, that will provide challenges like different styles, higher-quality fighters, and different training techniques.

The biggest thing is the sparring. What’s the point of sparring with guys like Bellew in the long-term? Yeah, he’s decent, he’s got a good jab, but he doesn’t replicate the things James struggled with against Groves and the Pole.

He needs to be sparring rounded guys who can do it all, and force him to learn and adapt. But honestly, he’s a bit lacking in the intelligence department. DeGale’s level is abundantly clear to anyone with some perspective and he’s nearly at it.

Without a completely new approach, he won’t exceed it.

Lol, DF Taylor i was actually thinking about you when watching, as gay as that sounds - that hating mother****er is gona love this!

But your spot on - hes got so many massive improvements to make, its hard to know where to start

A big problem for DeGale is that he doesnt know who he is as a pro - a default setting that he can revert to, a skilled southpaw who makes someone come to them!

His biggest problem is his punching - its quite appalling for an olympic champ, technique is bad and he doesnt have a jab, a guy like him should be able to win fights simply with a jab and he completely neglects it

He needs to bin Jim, as it as a bizarre match in the first place imo and start again

His problem with the jab is that he crosses his arm infron of his body which means it has no authority and becomes almost a back hand.

That just attests to how poor he is technically. Of all the shots to **** up, how can you get the jab wrong? He’s just smug and lazy and no-one’s correcting him.

All his physical gifts are undone by his awkward, ugly, useless style.
