Coincidentally when watching The Roy Jones Jr Story programme on setanta the other day one of his fights (forget which one now) the commentator suddenly going (as a lot of the crowd are standing up looking to the side up) "most of the crowd seem more interested in a fight thats going on in the bleachers"
really?? that is extremely interesting to hear, I don't know much bout aussie boxing, but is this a problem on the professional levels or just club fighters??
I can tell you that crowd trouble at British boxing events was not unusual in the 80s and 90s, when Welshman Michael Smyth {who actually beat Joe Calzaghe as a amateur} fought for the British title against Geoff McCreesh, in Reading, England ,the bout had to be stopped for 5 minutes as the crowd fought each other. Going back to 1910 there was major street riots in Cardiff, Wales after Freddie Welsh fought Peerless Jim Driscoll. You would not have wanted to be in Cardiff that night, valley ''commando's'' in town to see their man fight a local boy from the Cardiff docks area of the City.
Mate which one of them was arrested for being thought of as a Terrorist? I remember about 2 years ago i think now one of them was arrested while over seas and was finally cleared but damn I would be reopening those files lol
****ing disgraceful, I wouldn't be surprised if Fox started pulling shows because of this. This has really damaged the Aussie boxing image, it was worse than the broadcast would suggest.
