The weight limit was for 147. Not 144. He was more so encouraged to make 144 in his contract that he was stipulated.

The WBO strongarmed Cotto into taking the fight. They said flat out that Pac fight in Dec would be for the WBO title Cotto or no Cotto. They also said that anything over 140.1 was a welterweight fight and thus the title would be on the line. That itself is ground for Cotto to sue the WBO for changing the rule that states he can weigh as much at 147. So what would have happened if Cotto said **** you Im not fighting at 145?? The WBO would have stripped him and gave the title to pac, and cotto would have been called a coward and it would be said that he ran from Pac. If I recall right, the Cotto pac deal had a weight clause just like JMM and floyd did. I recall them saying that Pac wanted a mill per pound that Cotto was over. And BoomBoom Team pac wanted 140 to fight Cotto and 142 to fight Shane. if pac was the one to do, i will be the first in line to condemn such act. but word of honor is word of honor. pbf bound himself to come in at 144 and came in at 146. and this speaks a lot about the character of the man.
