Yeah I don't think it's just that though by any means, maybe people feel like his good guy persona was a fake when the cocaine scandal came out?
Possibly mate, although I think that would be short sighted of people. I'm very much anti-drugs, always have been, I have never touched them in my life and think that they are disgusting. I have no time for drug dealers, pure scum, and I only have limited sympathy for those that take them. However through my work I have met many many people who have used drugs (and continue to do so unfortunately) and although I don't agree with it I have a different understanding of the types of people who use them and their reasons why. I have met a lot of very decent people who have felt the need to take drugs, and to assume that Ricky Hatton is somehow a 'fake' because he has taken them is a very simplistic way of looking at things. I would also add that if somebody doesn't think that a huge amount of sporting 'heroes' have not tried illicit substances then they are very naive.
:thumbsup We better be careful mate, this is in danger of turning into a reasonable and mature discussion. Very un-ESB behaviour!
That's why I like posting in the british forum mate, you can actually have a proper debate/discussion. I may post the exact same thread in the general forum just to see what the difference is
i like him but i think a lot of people dislike him for his constant putting of **** on ppv, and now this after claiming it was "for the fans" cheers ricky i love paying an extra £15 quid :good and i think a lot of people are pissed off at his fans for their effect on boxing, if i could go back in time i'd probably kill the guy who first started singing "hatton wonderland" as now i have to hear a version of it at every show
This comeback reminds me a lot of McGuigan's... The man is young enough to comeback strong, but that je ne sais quoi that connected him to the public seems to be missing.
He had a massive ego, tried to play up a "man of the people, normal bloke down the pub" image but his head really disappeared up his own arse after about 2006. Just look at the amount of interviews where he constantly refers to himself in the third person, and points out the fact that everybody loves him because he's such a normal guy all the time. That level of false modesty will always annoy people.
this is one of many reasons. Infact I don't see anything to like about him, he's just a mug. Ducked Witter for years. Cherrypicked fights in a carefully stage-manager career. Man United fan (he's been pictured many times in the boxes at The Theatre of Prawn Sandwiches with United players) yet clamied to be a City fan, to prey on the large and success-starved fanbase to ultimately line his pockets. Constantly referring to himself in 3rd person and toe-curling false modesty. Massive ego, deluded about his real level. ****, ugly fighting style yet the way he talks he really seems to believe he's a great entertainer. There's loads more reasons, if you wanna hear them??
Never liked him, never will. I'm kinda glad he's back due to sport over here needing more big nights etc. But the guy himself i disliked intensely i see it same as Betty TBH.
