yep. if Carl had said this afterwards, the ref would have got the full brunt of it all. it is a shame though, because they both gave a great account of themselves in the ring. two warriors making an exciting fight with lots of heart... and it's been overshadowed by the controversial nature of it. i do think a rematch is in order as well. both deserve to get the chance to finish the fight one way or another in the right way. Groves wants it. the fans want it. the money WILL be there. but, does Carl want to go through with that again? we shall see.
I don't usually post on here, but enjoy reading, think alot of you are really knowledgeable and Ive learnt alot just reading this forum about boxing. As a fighter I don't think you can question Carl Froch, he is a warrior who lives the right life and has never ducked anybody. In my opinion he was getting a beating on Saturday night, didn't deserve the victory, and never had George Groves in serious trouble at all. As a person though, I just can't take to him at all, and never have, he comes across as such an arrogant and aloof guy, and very rarely has a good word to say about anybody. Even his own Dad says he doesn't like the way he speaks to people which says alot to me.
You could write an essay about Froch and why he is such a dislikeable fella but what would be the point? Take this fight on its merit: At NO point did Groves disrespect Froch. Arguably the worst thing he did was ask him if he was about to cry on Ringside; Other than that he did absolutely nothing wrong. The biggest issue is Carl's ego. He saw George, his record and decided he simply wasn't good enough. Clearly the fact George wasn't technically the true mandatory didn't help but Carl is so arrogant it was irrelevant. George throughout the build-up said Carl was a fighter he respected but felt he could beat. This seemed to rile Carl for some bizarre reason. The notion that a guy who was going to get into the ring with him for a boxing match and felt he could beat him somehow offended him. What George did at the press conference should go down in legend. Nobody believed a word he said, yet he walked to the centre of the ring and ****ing bossed a guy that EVERYONE assumed held the centre of the ring in this fight and that George would run. Even after arguably the worst stoppage in recent memory Carl still continued to talk bollocks. He had a nights sleep to consider it but couldn't help himself. His achievements cannot be denied, but he has a personality that can be disliked.
Has no class at all, speaks before he actually processes anything In his brain, speaks down to people (including his dad), bullys people (including his dad), comes from a family of absolute filth, and yeah, hes a complete *****.
The other thing was post fight when they were both sat ringside George Groves explained how what he said he would do he did, Carl turned round and said dismissively "you didn't do any of those things". He did everything he said and more, Carl got beaten up by a "kid" and got a gift and didnt have the class to even acknowledge how good his opponent was, he's a twat and that's why I don't think he will be remembered in the same light as other British greats...which is a shame...
Froch the boxer is very easy to like, and I respect him as a fighter. Froch the man/personality, well it IS difficult to like him.
doesnt mean anything mate i could land a punch on your eye, split it open and leave you with scars and bruising. Then a couple secs later you may land straight on my chin, knock me spark out but there is not a single mark on my face. Really means **** all tbh.
Ringside was extremely disrespectful by Groves. One of the most disrespectful public goadings of a boxer on British shores. Taunting Froch like a school-boy, asking if he's gonna cry and calling him a chump. Also mocked Froch's demeanour and then belittled him after about the whole saga. That set the tone and was the biggest disrepsct of the build-up obviously.
