I've had some problems with mainly my right shoulder, having it dislocate 3 times. The first time it was skateboarding, second time while walking on my hands, and the third time was quite recently, in sparring. Then, the other day in sparring, I threw a left hook (recklessly I might add), and I could feel the bone was about to jump out of the joint. This really sucks, since I thought that that shoulder was fine (I haven't had any problems with it before, and I've been boxing for about 1,5 years). So does any of you have problems with your shoulders? And what kind of exercises have you done so it wouldn't happen again? Edit: The first 2 times my right shoulder dislocated I got it x-rayed, and nothing had happened to the bone, so it was only the joint itself. The third time it dislocated the bone went into the joint again a couple of seconds after it had popped out. No x-ray. My left shoulder never dislocated as I explained in the original post, but it was close to. No x-ray.
Have you seen a doctor about your shoulder? No one on this forum knows the extent of your injury so can't really give any good advice.
I edited the original post with some additional info's about the injury. But I would really like to know about some exercises that are helpful for dislocated shoulders in general.
I'm telling you right now, you might have to stop boxing. My coach had the exact same problem. He dislocated his shoulder when he was young, then when he started boxing he dislocated it again. Then when he went pro he dislocated it another 3 times and had to stop boxing (which is why hes now a coach). All in all he's told me that hes dilocated it so much that he can pop it back in him self now every time it happens, which is not a good thing lol. It happen one time when he was sparring with me when I first started, he threw an incredibly light hook and bam it poped out. So you go two choices really, either go through lots and lots of physical therapy to help stenghten the muscles and tendons around your shoulder joint and attempt to continue boxing, or just stop all together. I don't know how seriously you dislocated it, so take my words with a grain of salt.
I dislocated my left shoulder 4 years ago in wrestling. it actually popped in and out like 3 times in the match overall. I ran out of injury time and lost the match i was winning by default... but anyways, i got surgery on it shortly after and during my therapy i did a lot of band exercises. It gets really sore after throwing so many jabs during practice. i wouldn't suggest quiting boxing if you like it, but just stop for the day if it starts acting up and try to talk to a physical therapist about what exercises would be best for you.
I've had some problems with my shoulders during my sports career in basketball and in weight lifting, plus my shoulder having been dislocated when I was a child. As shoulders are of crucial importance not only in most sports but also in everyday life, I can only give you the advice to go to a doctor. Most problems in shoulders don't simply heal with time, but get worse when you get older. I wish you all the best, as a wise man said, health isn't everything, but without health everything becomes nothing.
For what it's worth my left shoulder has been out 6 times, the first few were from boxing and they all hurt. I had to stop boxing for a few years, but I've recently got the urge to fight again. I didn't get surgery because it's too expensive and I couldn't take the time off work. So I switched to southpaw and with a few other adjustments like not really overextending my left when I punch with it I may try to get another fight sometime in the future. Just be really cautious with it. Also go to a good Orthapedic surgeon who has experience in sports med.
well i do know that u were throwing ur hook very bad because that's happened to me b4 (not disloacated though, just hurt for a while) and i learned it was because i was tryin to put too much of my shoulder into it. but neways...just take a rest for a while, massage and stretch the area of pain unless if that makes it hurt even worse
