    I like the article.
Floyd is not a runner but there are people who are not as safety first and are more crowd pleasing i.e. Mike Tyson. I enjoy watching him dismantle an opponent with his annoying jab and shoulder roll technique. If he stands and lands, that works if he pot shots but wins that works also. People will use any reason to hate a fighter. As one guy said "There are boxer fans and boxing fans". If you are a fan of pure boxing, you would be a fan of the boxer, Floyd Mayweather.

Nice but I don't know that I would call Mayweather a runner. That accolade should be held for guys like Hector Camacho.

The term runner is used by people who get mad because a fighter has good defense and can actually avoid punches. People who use that word think boxers should you just plant their feet in the middle of the ring and slug away with no defense until somebody goes down.

I couldn't care less about a boxers personality so it doesn't come into the equation when judging how gifted a boxer is, it's what they do in the ring that counts.

Good article. I feel it's a little biased but those are mostly facts. The situation is for Floyd, is that his "Style" is not fan friendly. Sure he's a defensive wizard and very accurate, but so was Sweet Pea, so was Pep and armstrong even Leonard and Ray, but they didn't use their god given talents to avoid the trenches like Floyd. They used their natrual talents and ability to overcome their opponents strengths and capitolize on their weaknesses.

Floyd in spots capitolizes on the weaknesses of his foes but avoids risks by all means. The art of hitting without getting hit is taken a bit TOO LITERAL in my stance on Floyd b/c Floyd would still be amazing if he decided to test his talents against his foes....he might still be undefeated, but if he wasn't he would have been a lot more respected and regarded than he is right now in this sport. Guys with his skill, talent and ability in the eras past are not any better or worse than floyd....they just have a different mentality....one that pushed them to challenge themselves and look for more meaningful legacies....Floyd, for as great a boxer and talent that he is lacks that in his DNA.

However, he outlands ALL of his opponents.

Not the case....most of the time he does land more, but not all the time. Floyd's style is to pot shot most of the time. Using his speed, refexes and athletic abilities to stay on the out side, look for those brief openings and capitolizing on them with one shot....then dip out, re-set and get out of harms way. When fighters with the right style corner him...bang away and land, they are able to land more than floyd but do little damage b/c of how solid Floyd's Defensive game is. ANd Floyd usually lays up on the ropes when he wants to...when he's forced there he isn't as solid as in the JLC fight.....but of course it was documented Floyd wasn't 100%....that is NOT an excuse. I feel it was validated by his rematch perfromance where Floyd dominated.

It's a good read and makes some good points. My problem with Floyd has never been with his style, it's been with his opposition since he became a welter.

Thanks for the response. I've heard Larry Mearchant say that PBF averages about 49% connect percentage, and his opponents average about 21%. I am interpreting that to mean that he also outlands his opponents as well as having a better connect%. What fights, besides JLC 1, has he been outlanded?

Is Mayweather a "runner"? He dose perfer to go backwards but it is a trap that every opoenet seems to fall for. He has also shown that he can be effective coming forward as well.
