Ok guys...we get some guys who are extremely disrespectul to their opponents before a fight and during the fight, but do shake hands at the end of the day, but during pre-fight buildup, is it tougher for you all to get into the good guy fights as opposed to the shi_talking disrespect.

Cotto vs Mayorga (disrespect)...really Mayorga vs anyone
    Hopkins vs Trinidad (disrespect)
    De La Hoya vs Vargas
Mayweather Jr. vs Hatton, Mayweather Jr. vs Mosely
    Barrera vs Morales
    Hopkins vs Pascal
    and many many more......or

    The nice guys...
    Manny vs. Clottey
    Manny vs. Mosely
and many many more.....but some guys are just genuine nice people so it would be out of character for them to act out but is disrespect good in you guys opinion?

Good manners cost nothing and don't effect the outcome.

As a fan, I love this. (It describes Cotto to perfection).

As a promoter, I would look for good guy vs. bad guy matchups. Look at the buzz around Mayweather fights; he plays the role of villian to perfection.

    You need both.

Good guys only sell fights when they face great villains. This is what makes Boxing so great.

Most disrespectful I ever saw was Margarito before the fight against Pacquiao. His team were mocking Freddy Roche over his Parkinsons. Utterly disgraceful

I agree with cesare-borgia philosophy and prefer to follow boxers who exemplify such attributes.

An example of two gentlemen going to war was Gatti vs Ward.

Yeh it's good to have both. I really respect Cotto especially the type of person he is, as "jeffjoiner' said earlier but people like Mayorga make me want to watch the press conferences, he's much more entertaining with his mouth and it helps sell the fight.

I like watching the fighters be disrespectful to one another to some extent, because that way both fighters will want to kill each other which in most cases makes a pretty good fight to watch. But I do find a line between being over the top disrespectful and just doing it to promote the fight.

If you have the natural ability to be arrogant and disrespectful to your opponents in a way which comes across as funny and tongue-in-cheek, then I can accept it. Guys like Hamed, Mayorga and Ali, were hilarious with their antics, and so it was tolerable when they did it. Mayorga calling Vargas' face round and soft like his son's ass, Hamed fooling around with Kelly after one of his fights, Ali spitting rhymes....these were all memorable moments that made you chuckle even if you weren't fans of them. The same would go for Tyson, who, whilst not funny, was damn right serious and menacing when he would threaten to stomp on your testacles.

However, if you've got the wit of a bag of rocks, and you're seen as someone who tries too hard to be funny or sell a fight, then the trash-talking and jokes are a put-off for me. Recent examples being Haye and Mayweather, spouting stupid things like "I've got a hard-on right now" and "I'm a gorilla, I'm a dog". Some real cringe-worthy stuff that do the complete opposite to what the likes of Ali and Naseem did.

So my thought is, just be natural! If you've got the ability to be funny and entertaining, then go for it. But if not, then don't.

But I do love a bit of quality trash talking to hype a fight as well

A lot of "disrespectful" people out there really aren't that bad.

A lot of "gentlemen" will stab you in the back if it benefits them.

I prefer disrespectful fighters..more entertaining..and they are usually being more "real".
