Yeah, but what about when he's defending Floyd by saying Floyd is the lineal "Ring" champ at 147 when others say that Cotto is the true champ.

Then the Ring has credibility, but I guess now since a writer who's been critical of Floyd in the past, he decides that the Ring doesn't have crediblity.

I gotta disagree to the extent Hopkins isnt the LHW Champ. By virtue of Tarver who beat RJJ he's Champ. The only way to oppose that is Erdei and when has he clamored for the fight? I dont see a murderer's
    row on his resume.

The Hop's.JC Winner is in 2 weeks and who knows Dawson could get a shot later this year for all we know. I cant see that much of an issue over comp yet. I absolutely agree dawson is on the horizon for that Winner.

With all the politics involved in boxing I am starting to beleve that championships or tittles whatever you want to call them are not as important as being reconized as the best in a division by the majority of people with knlodge of boxing both media and fans alike.
If were going o have a champion it should be that boxer that we (for the most part) agree is the best in his division. Regardles if he owns any belts at all.

Floyd is the WBC/Ring/Lineal champ at 147. However, the Ring/lineal titles have very little to do with why he's the top fighter in the division. Baldomir and Briggs have proved that Ring and/or lineal titles do not neccessarily make you the best fighter in the division. Anyone with two eyes can see that Floyd is the most talented fighter at WW, he's also the most accomplished fighter and the top draw. Not one fighter at WW would enter into a fight with Floyd as the favorite.

Steve Kim can criticise Floyd all he wants. In this case, I agree with him 100%. I'm not saying the Ring should be totally discarded. However, it's ridiculous that people don't see the obivious flaws with the Ring. Many people who spout this ring/lineal rhetoric are doing nothing but parroting **** they heard some ******* on T.V say. Hell, I never really questioned the legitimacy of the Ring and lineal titles until I did my own research. Furthermore, the sanctioning bodies, while not perfect, are much more fair and credible than people give them credit for.

I have no hidden agenda. Believe it or not, everything I post is not some elaborate scheme to make Hopkins or Mayweather look better.

That's besides the point I don't really agree with the idea that Oscar is tainting ring magazine by owning. I would've posted the whole article, but I was warned not to post copyrighted material anymore. Just go to the site that is the scene for boxing and read the article on Chad Dawson. The Ring is seriously flawed. Promoters and HBO seemingly are intent on exploiting these flaws to further their agenda.

The article points out flaws with Ring that were already known. The same flaws apply to the ABC belts because of the rules that allow the committee to make rulings that aren't consistant and use "special circumstances" to allow certain fighters to bypass the rules. No one knows what those "Circumstances" are, nor is there any consistant evidence that would point to what it is. They also have that little "stripping" problem which is a byproduct of such rulings and the original problem I just laid out.

It says virtually nothing about the Lineal title. No one is saying that the Lineal champion is ALWAYS the best. But certainly neither are the ABC champions. Lets not confuse the issues we have been fighting over. The article criticizes Ring for not being able to make the best fighters fight the best fighters and therefore hold their belt hostage.....are the ABC orgs not also guilty of the same thing all the time? Erdai is holding the Lineal title hostage by not facing any top LHW's. But he is also holding his ABC title hostage the same way.

The special circumstances allow fighters to bend the rules to make big fights, which is for the good of the sport. Stripping is a neccessary evil in boxing. Many fighters that get stripped, are stripped rightfully.

Read what was written about "lineal" champ Joel Casamayor to see the real problem with the lineal title.

That's why the sanctioning bodies strip fighters. People complain about fighters getting stripped, however it is neccessary in order to prevent figters from holding up a division and denying others an opportunity. Sure, there are a few isolated incidences where this happens with the ABC orgs. However, the rules are setup for this not to happen. The way the rules for the Ring are setup, it allows for any Ring champ to hold up a division anytime they want.

Take a look at the LW division. Right now, Diaz is negotiating with Casamayor. If Diaz were to get that fight and win, he would be the Ring and supposed "lineal" champion. In the eyes of many in the boxing community, this would make him "the real champ". However, common sense would tell you that this is bull****.

The "special circumstances" is not only for making big fights. The WBC stripped Casamayor for trying to unify with Freitas. A "Big fight". They wanted them to fight his unknown mandatory David Diaz. (the circumstances of this have already been explained. He never signed to fight Freitas and the WBC jumped the gun stripping him without even doing a purse bid all so they could get Mexican legend Morales a shot at a 4th title...where us the WBC based again?) No special circumstances there then right? Yet, right now, they are letting David Diaz (also a Mexican fighter....it's based where again?) hold his belt without fighting a mandatory so that he may fight Pacquiao. So the consistancy is where?

Go back and read again that most people are bright enough to understand that the Lineal title is not always the "best fighter". It's a matter of degrees in some instances. We know that a fight just happened where Diaz lost to Campbell. That is easy to pick out. On the flip side, when the ABC's stripped Hamed for fighting top fighters and champions in the 126 division, he was still the Lineal champion. And when he lost to MAB, who then lost to Pacquiao, there was no way you could tell us that the ABC champions were better than the Lineal champion in that instance. Common sense would call bull**** there as well. Pointing out the Lineal titles flaws doesn't make the ABC flaws less glaring. There are instances of both.

I put your argument for the ABC's right back at you. The Ring title is rarely held up because of these rules. It usually gives an accurate representation of the best fighters in the division. There are isolated incidents that you are trying to make glaring to prove a point. The same can be and has been pointed out with the ABC orgs. Stripping is necessary in some instances, certainly not all, and it needs to be consistant. It isn't. And their rankings are even worse.

The Ring has flaws, the ABC has flaws, and so does Lineal. I have yet to see you put forth any argument that proves the ABC orgs are "less flawed". You fall back on their rules and rightful strippings. Their rules are BS, and they hold up divisions all the time with their stripping. Look at the HW division.

Calzaghe can't win!! He gets hassle for fighting a '43 yr' old but if he was fighting Dawson he'd be accused of avoiding big names like BHop. Whatever, it looks like the light heavies are sorting things out with the upcoming fights over the next 2 weeks which will hopefully lead to the Ring belt being unified with the others down the line.

i cant believe its so hard for people to just disregard the belts.

If there is a CHAMPIOn, you have to beat him to become CHAMPIOn.
If no champion, then winner of #1 and #2 determines victor.

HOW ****ING HARD IS THAT TO COMPREHEND? Just b/c someone has the wbooghnswisi belt doesnt give him any ****ing claim to the belt

Champion- Castillo lost to Corrales lost to Casamayor= CASA IS CHAMPION
Spinks lost to Judah lost to Baldomir lost to Mayweather= FMJ IS CHAMPION

how ****ing hard is that to comprehend?

So you think a fighter is better than the champ? So ****ing what? I think the Patriots are a better team than the NY Giants. But guess what? NY Giants are THE CHAMPIONS.
