How many of you find social media and phones a distraction while watching fights ? I just dumped twitter for this reason , arsebook went a while back and now its only this website that i comment on while watching though it is still a distraction, posting comments while watching, scoring rounds, look at other comments Maybe i am just **** at multi tasking lol Eventually its all going, phone, laptop the lot need it for my job just now so cant dump them yet. Your thoughts ?
I do find myself at times getting caught spending more time seeing how people are reacting to the fight online than watching it myself!
i only tend to check my phone during the breaks between rounds. My problem is actually being so focused on the fight in terms of scoring, that "miss" most of the actual fight itself
Id say that too, sitting trying to score has ruined fights for me, i sometimes have a bit of paper and just do a rough scoring at end of round. Though more often these days i cant be arsed.
I remember a mate coming along to watch a fight and he kept asking for it to be paused while he went for a smoke, we ended up lagging enough behind that when the finish came he got notified on his phone and shouted it out "oh **** Groves got knocked out" it totally ruined the headline fight for me.
I always try to join in on the General section RBRs because I don’t have too many friends who are genuine boxing fans. So I tend to post in those threads a lot during fights and while I try to avoid doing it during the rounds sometimes I’m finishing typing away and miss a few punches. Put on a Crolla fight though and I’ll be easily distracted on my phone.
I check it between rounds to see how others see the fight going. If it's a replay I'm watching from an early morning fight then I'll swerve it completely. Easily done, I think
Yes - especially undercard fights if they aren't exciting. Even main events as well though. I find my phone has become a terrible distraction all of the time. I'm in a very bad habit of picking it up and checking emails etc every 10 minutes. Luckily I never really got into twitter but Facebook has been an issue. I don't even like Facebook and I only stay on there to keep up with friends and pictures but I found myself checking it constantly and scrolling down the same stuff in my news feed all day long. I sacked it off a few weeks back, deleted the app and logged out of it and I managed to quickly break the habit. At first I found myself going to press the bit of my screen where the FB app used to reside. It's all a bit scary when you think about it!
Yeah your bang on dude its a huge problem i had a night watching a movie with my brother and his 11 year old son and the film got stopped and rewinded loads of times due to other devices distracting from the film " what happened" lol Watch the joe rogan podcast with Ellon Musk he basically says were all part Cyborg already as the phone is becoming an extension of ourself ! Sounds outrageous but he has a point. Its a very interesting podcast that episode well worth a watch.
I nearly wrote that very thing in my reply - phones are literally an extension of us now. It's not good. And yes I watch / listen to JRE podcasts quite a lot, yet to see the Musk one, will give it a whirl, cheers
I tend to stay off my phone while the boxing is on because I don't wanna miss any of it. Then go online after the fights to see what ppl are saying about it. In the RBR threads on the general forum, I've no idea how ppl are able to type a full paragraph of analysis in between rounds without missing some of the fight.
Lol I went mental at my bird the other day because I cancelled my FIFA session on her insistence that we watch a film together and then she spent a good chunk of the beginning on her phone. I was like what’s the point if you’re going to do that?
Wait, so you deleted all your accounts on social media altogether, or you just no longer sign into them during live fights? Anyway, for me doing the RBR threads on here long ago desensitized me to multitasking with various browser tabs open and typing away furiously while simultaneously absorbing the flood of intake written by others in my periphery - but always keeping one eye squarely on the action, but what's more a problem is factors within my own environment. My ex-wife and current gf both had to learn the hard way that domestic life gets far less harmonious when they deign to interrupt me while boxing's on, and that making themselves as inconspicuous as possible (to such an extent that I can ignore their existence) is the best way to keep the peace.
Yeah i nailed facebook about 7 years ago felt false to me, i didnt realise till about six months ago it was only deactivated as someone hacked in and asked all my friends to wire me money. Completely deleted now, instagram i had for a month then binned it, twitter i just couldnt be arsed with, wiped that as well. I am still on a few forums , thats it really.
