When DLH was lighter, he was notorious for his early weigh in and huge size advantage over everyone from 130-140. He made a name beating much smaller guys. Which brings us to today. He fought Mayweather, looked for Paulie Malignaggi and Forbes before setting on the latter, sent feelers our regarding hatton, and now is chasing a guy who just moved to 135. How ****in pathetic is this? All this from a guy who said Pavlik was too big . Yes, 6 pounds and a couple inches is TOO big for DLH, yet is trying to close the deal on Pac. DLH's greatness really comes into question here. It's bordering pathetic. :-(
Wow Lance it's been a long time coming but I agree 100%.:good Oscar saying Kelly was too big but then calling out a man who started at 106 is simply too much for any boxing fan to take. I'm glad this sideshow is over and Manny can get back to business at fighting guys in his weightclass. I have no problems with Oscar fighting guys like Tito or Winky just stay away from Margo and Cotto since he would be doing nothing but messing up the divison. It's strange how his career has come full circle it started with him picking on guys like Paez and ending with him picking on a guy almost as small.
Its beyond pathetic and more pathetic are the people who would have paid to see that fight had it not fallen through. I do disagree and DLH in his younger days. The guy fought everybody...and had the balls to fight Hopkins too. That takes stones for a fat weltwerweight to challenge one of the greatest middleweights of all time.
Unbelieveable, instead of rejoicing that this fight is not taking place some of you still focus on the negativeatsch
Planets aligned or something? :think You know, it just bothers me that DLH will try to go through and then STILL charge anyone $65 to see it. When id he going to clean up boxing? When will he make boxing better for all fighters, not just GBP fighters who have basically ant date w/ HBO? Anytime people mentioned how small the guys he fought were, the responce was almost always "You're hating!" I think DLH has done enough of this crap that, as Guru said, his entire sup 147 should be under scrutiny. It's just embarressing that a guy his size would target guys like Paulie Malignaggi, Forbes, Hatton, and Pacquiao for fights and STILl have the gaul to say someone closer to his size is too big.
I still think it has a chance of happening. DLH wants to fight someone big, and Pac is about it now. They may have hit a snag, but December is a long ways away.
Yeah that's the issue I have with it as well. If he just wants to earn money hell he could fight Tito and do a million buys.:-( Hell he could do a good number fighting just about anyone. I don't like him picking on smaller fighters like Hatton, Forbes and Pac, who don't have a prayer of beating him it's bad fo boxing. Also holding up the progress at 147 by constantly having his name in the mix. Stick to fighting someone closer to his own size preferably his own age or retire.
i have no quams about his skills he was that good...but his under 147 even 140 championship reigns were fads and fakes. the guy is 5'10 and making stupid wieghts just so he has a weight division under his name. not just that coming in 20 pound heavier than the wieght division is such a hypocritical view. great jab, booming left hook and a sizable right hand...but the man was bending rules and using politics to get his way. im not a hater i just cant stand how people just accept it. the guy is huge for a super feather tall for a light welter and above average at welter my god he did a job at light middle. and prooved to me that he could figth a guy his same wieght and look good. which was vargas...and vargas made him look like a fool at times why most of us dont care about cotto's wieght draining is becuase the guy barely scrapes 5'7 and has a trex reach. he has a clear cut reason to drain. josh clottey is in he similar camp. at middlewieght he would be engulfed.
While I'm not exactly comfortable with how he ended his carreer I don't see cutting weight as all that bad. **** many legends will have to be disqualified for having done it. From Hearns, Duran, and Leonard to current Williams, Cotto, and Margarito. I think at the end of a carreer it does seem shady though, and dangerous in that it could backfire when you're older and settled into your weight.
