Past prime losses don`t mean ****... Oscar was still a prime top p4p rated fighter when Hopkins stopped him with one body shot... he also lost every round to the much smaller pacquiao before being stopped & pac was coming up from LW (were he only had one fight vs David Diaz) to WW, DLH was past his best but definitely no more than Chavez was in the Oscar fights... DLH had every advantage going vs Chavez... no way DLH beats the Chavez of the Rosario or even Camacho fight. Chavez > Oscar = Fact !
I hated Oscar for a long time after he whooped my boy Chavez. But he grew on me over time, and even tho Julio was passed it by the time he faced Oscar, i give Oscar much props for his performances in those fights. '90 Chavez of the Taylor fight vs '96 Oscar of the Chavez fight at 140lbs, now that would be a great fight. :deal Anything below 140lbs, Chavez wins. Anything above, Oscar wins. :good
:nono You're my boy turbo, but you are DEAD wrong if you honestly believe this, Chavez was at his peak at this weight, and Oscar will not, and i repeat would NOT be able to keep Chavez off him. In the later rounds Oscar will begin to tire from all the constant pressure from Chavez and will take a hammering. Chavez by clear decision. I dont see any Lightweight from the last 30 years or so defeating Chavez for the exception of Whitaker and maybe Mosley, which is 50/50 IMO. You should rewrite your post to Lightweight Oscar would be calling Lightweight Chavez "Papi". :deal
Agree to disagree then, I just think Oscar's jab and pure boxing ability would carry the day over Chavez' body work.
:thumbsup Oscar was huge for Lightweight, but i feel Oscar wasn't quite as polished here as he was at 140lbs and above. That and lets not forget about Chavez' own boxing ability as well and his bobbing and weaving, which he used very effectively especially around this weight. Glad i can have a good boxing discussion here for once tho. :good It's not everyday i get to have one of those here in the General Forum. :yep
Whitaker. Dudes like Ike Williams and Henry Armstrong i would probably favor as well. No shame in that, you're talking about the absolute best in arguably THE deepest and most talent filled division of all time.
and i dont like comparing ancient fighters with fighters from the 80-90's and up....big difference in training...eating, fighting etc etc......
My man :thumbsup It gets rough in here sometimes no doubt. Oscar was green at 135 I'll give you that. Hell, looking back he was pretty green at 147 fighting Whitaker with only 20 or so fights. :tired
