Goosen, Don King and Bob Arum. He studders at pressers and half the time doesn't even know what he is saying. After seeing Dan Goosen promote the Margarito-Williams fight it is amazingly bad watching DLH promote Hopkins-Wright.
the way he talks makes him a bad promotor? Or are you saying hes a bad communicator? I dont see how one has to do with the other. Moreover, so far his company has made some of the biggest fights in boxing over the last couple of years, so your claim has no merit whatsoever.
What nonsense. ANYONE is better than that corrupt scumbag King, who is nothing more than a PARASITE who has spent 30 years ripping off the guys who actually put their lives on the line for this sport, the fighters. Oscar and his partners are a breath of fresh air compared to that.
GBP are greedy like most others, but AT LEAST they make some of the better matches happen and AT LEAST they have strict policy when it comes to treating their roster fairly, which includes pension after they retire...
Maybe if Margo was with GBP, he wouldn't gotten into some bigger fights sooner in his career, instead of fighting no names on regional PPV and ESPN. :deal
He is doing better because he soaked mass amounts of cash into brand name, soon-to-be retired boxers. Just how many prospects are under the banner of GBP? The man took finished products and made do with them. A brain-dead moron could pull that off. And besides that half of what goes into a promotion is communication. If you (Jose FM) are telling me a promoter doesn't have to know how to speak then you must also be telling me a car salesman can also be a studdering fool. That is crazy talk. Yes he has done well. Again though he hasn't been working with new boxers or prospects. Just proven commodities. King, Arum and Goosen are far superior in every way. And Zak, I know you are a DKP hater, that is cool. But don't try and say he ruined boxing over the past 3 decades when he was single-handidly responsible for the majority of heavyweight title unifications during that period. Just look at how Goosen last 2 weeks promoted Margarito-Williams. Then watch this lost for words buffoon covering Hopkins-Wright. It should be no wonder why these two brand name boxers will do average PPV numbers.
In De La Hoya's defense , this is a hard fight to promote. Hopkins is in his 40's and although very impressive in his last fight, it was equally boring. Wright is a fighter known for his strong technical style and boring fights. I cant even recall the last time Wright had a Ko, it most of been years.
No excuse. This is part of promotion (knowing what styles make for exciting fights). This only proves how limited DLH is as far as promoter intelligence. He only knows how to take brand name boxers and put them together. That is essentially all he has done since being a promoter. He doesn't deal with prospects or unknowns, not like the other big three. And also to note some other replies on this thread: Sure DLH is a big name, but who made him a big name? Or have you all so suddenly forgotten how Arum stacked him with overmatched, undersized opponents to guarantee victory on his way to the top? Arum made DLH what he is more than anyone here actually knows. I am in no way a DLH hater. But I see the light. I enjoyed watching him as a fighter, but this promoter thing I think is over his head. Time will tell once he is struggling to find brand names to work with.
Promoting this fight is like being a used car salesman trying to sell someone a junk car , by convincing them it is great. It is not an easy thing to do! I will admit I am wrong , if the fight is turns out exciting, but giving these two's fighting styles I expect one long boring fight.
You have it wrong, obviously The mark of a good promoter is how well he can promote a fight WITHOUT brand names.
And I suppose Arum and Don King are penniless? This statement of yours really has no basis in this discussion. They ALL make money. atsch Again, an idiot can take brand names, put them together on PPV and make money. That is nothing. It sells itself.
Who does DLH promote? You ask me if I were a fighter. Tell me if I was a new prospect with relatively unknown market value would GBP promote me? Never. His whole goal from the onset was to grab up proven sellers and drop them on PPV. How many HBO telecasts has he promoted? How many compared to Arum? How many compared to DKP's showtime broadcasts? He made a gross amount of cash being promoted by Bob Arum, and then jumped in with his fat wallet, bought up proven sellers and put them on PPV. That takes no skill or know-how.
