    WBO at 130.
    WBO at 135.
    IBF at 135.
    WBC at 140.
    WBC at 147.
    WBC at 154.
    WBA at 154.
    WBO at 160.
    WBC at 154.

In theory, he could say that he's won 9 titles. **** that IBA title.

The shenanigans that occured in that fight with Panama Lewis and the black bottle is irrelevant in this discussion.

Arguello may have been the first fighter in history to win titles in 4 different weight classes by fighting the lesser recognized champion.....and then gone on to try and cement his accomplishment by fighting Pryor.......
.......but what if Arguello had done that, and then lost to Pryor????
......Like Arguello said, it would have been a slap in the face to every fighter that had tried and failed to win a title in a fourth weight class, that he had done it against a paper champion!

I know what you and most everyother fighter in existence today would have done......
.....but you have to understand the mentality of a true World Champion that to that point recognized the history of the sport and the great champions before him.

Arguello wanted very badly to become the first fighter in history to win a title in a fourth weight class, but to live with himself and be proud of that accomplishment, he wanted to do it legitly against the best.

Not that long ago, just a few years back, Arguello was interviewed in a spanish broadcast, and the subject of his attempt to win a world title in a fourth weight class came up.....
.....the interviewer said to Arguello, "Alexis, you could have won that 4th title had you faced" (I forget the name of the champion that was brought up)........but just as soon as the interviewer said the name of the other champion in that weight division, Arguello interupted before the interviewer had finished has question.....
Arguello interupted in his spanish with "no no no no no, Aaron Pryor era el legitimo campeon mundial en ese tiempo. Quise con todo mi corazon, coronarme Campeon mundial in 4 differentes categorias, pero para mi, Aaron Pryor era el Campeon legitimo!

.....translation, no no no no no, Aaron Pryor was the legitimate World Champion at that time. I wanted with all my heart to win a title in a fourth weight class, but to me Aaron Pryor was the legitimate World Champion.

No doubt that even to this day, Arguello has no regrets with his decision!:happy

The WBO strap at SMW has had a good degree of credibility ever since Eubank had a draw with the then WBC champ Benn.

Its standard of champ at that weight has also been very high... Only Tommy Hearns, Eubank, Collins and Calzaghe have ever held that belt.

Please. To this day you scream to holy hell that DLH beat your boy Chavez when he was at the tail end, and then had the nerve to do it again. When it comes to DLH your posts are hardly objective.

Their fight at welterweight is a given that Chavez was no longer amongst the elite in boxing.
No question that he was way past prime then....

.....but you've never heard me around here point out that Chavez was shot when he met Chavez at 140 lbs.....certainly he was'nt close to prime, but imo had some in the tank to contend against the likes of DLH.

It just goes to show that other posters stereotype others and assume that one thinks that Chavez at a certain point in his career was shot.....

......you got it wrong Pea, my opinion on the first fight between Chavez and DLH was that Chavez' pre-existing cut was a huge factor in the way the fight developed.
Nowdays, the cut issue is'nt even brought up......but once Chavez' cut opened up with the first jab of the fight, my contention is that Chavez, who's plan was to take a green DLH into deep water in the late rounds and drown him.....that plan went out the window when Chavez was gushing blood in the very first round.....and it was'nt from anything significant that DLH did.

Thats my opinion, and although I'll admit that DLH does'nt suit my fancy, it does'nt make me the hater you'd like to think of me ass.

I'm certainly not in Jack Presscot's league when it comes to hating DLH!
