Tito Trinidad For being brave (and some would say stupid), for fighting Roy Jones after all of his inactivity, in his comeback fight. It was a fight that he couldn't really win, but it was a challenge. or Oscar Delahoya For being SMART, fighting someone (Stevie Forbes) who couldn't knock him out with "brass knuckles." Everyone knows this is a farce, Forbes is fighting his boss for Christs sakes.....Got "fix" written all over it, and I have NO interest in watching DLH fight Stevie "freaking" Forbes... I just find it fascinating that while both of these guys optimal weights were 147 (DLH probably a little lower), the paths they have taken. It appears Oscar is "SMARTER" for taking fights that even though he KNOWS he can't win (Mayweather), it makes him look good because he probably won't get hurt if he loses. But as a fan, how do you feel?
DLH is by far worse. I respect Tito for taking the Jones fight. He was fighting the bigger man but at least he had a punchers chance.
I respected Tito's guts but I'd like it a lot more if he had the desire to fight more often and actually get down to his ideal weight class.
I feel like it was brave for Trinidad to take on Jones but pointless. He had almost no chance at all and was not going anywhere with the win (had it happened) other than saying he beat Jones. Trinidad's was braver of course but pointless. It's like he had no direction of where he wanted to go other than back into the public eye. Oscar's fight with Forbes is a tune up for Mayweather, nothing more nothing less. Sure, he can possibly get outboxed in the fight but he is looking for someone to give him a public sparring match that is comparable to Floyd's style. I don't know if physical threat is what makes you brave or loosing your legacy to a fighter you know will beat you (though probably not knock you out) but Floyd is even more of a favorite in this fight than the one before and even the diehard DLH fans are picking Floyd to win. Also in this warm up fight we will get a taste by the great Mayweather trainers pitted against each other. The trainers element is what got me interested in this fight after initially being turned off like everyone else. The DLH/Mayweather fight will be a Clash Of The Titans in regards to some of the biggest egos in boxing and because of this I think the fight might be alot different than the last. The boxing gods are picking sides. Who knows, maybe Oscar and Tito are just two once great older fighters looking to establish legacy before they leave. If so, we should be cool to the once great fighters and not **** on them too much.
This version of Tito would be knocked down a couple times by DLH... Hate to say it, but RJJ knocked him down with a jab... Tito gets respect for being stupid enough to fight RJJ though. DLH sucks b/c he has an iron grip on the boxing scene right now.
I remember Oscar said something about Roy years ago and Roy said tell him to meet me at a catchweight and I'll kick his ass too. They went back and told Oscar what Roy said and Oscar wanted no part of it and changed the subject. Tito on the other hand was pepared to face Roy in 02 if he would've beaten Hopkins in Sep 01. Tito would've been brutalized but he has balls the size of grapefruits.
Absolutely bro, I just think it's fascinating that while they've fought, they go about things differently... I also think it's fascinating that DLH has always made "business" decisions, while fighting great competition, while Tito has always been courageous even to the point he comes off as "brave but dumb." He made 15 million fighting Roy Jones, so I might have to rethink this..... Don King makes Tito seem like he's not his "own man."
I like them both. I believe Oscar is being smarter in terms of his career and bank account. Tito is being more ballsy I guess. I just still don't understand why Tito took that fight. I really want to see Tito get back in real shape and fight at middle or even 154 if that is at all possible.
You guys gotta give up the flirtatious "hard to get" routine. You know you are ALL going to be glued to the TV sets when the 24/7 episodes start to roll in and Daddy Floyd and Uncle Roger start talking **** about each other in those hysterical cartoon voices of theirs. That's my prediction.
Tito got about $12 million or so for the Jones fight, which is more than he's ever made barring the DLH fight I believe. I think that was the "point" to take on such a tough fight. Of course there's the spotlight and cheers which Tito loves. Plus I think Tito did believe he could win, although nearly everyone else thought (knew) he would lose. Tito actually did better than I expected.
really, i thought it was by a right hook and then a right cross?? but who knows, its been more than a few weeks by now. As far as I've seen DLH still gets weary after 6 or 7 rounds so lets just see what happens. I agree with u that DLH will probably be beating Trinidad to the punch in the first part of the fight and could Knock him down, but we really dont know what would happen, besides chances are the fight wont happen because of the weights difference now.
He did do well and had a lot of heart. Tito is always about heart. I just think, like everyone else, he should of started slower. He had a three year off lay off and comes back to fight Jones of all people! That's what I mean, he should of took a couple of warm ups. That's what Oscar is doing with Steve Forbes. That's what most boxers do in between important fights.
