All the hoya talk made me go back and watch the Trinidad fight. I was surprised that the fight actually holds up. Anyway, I had it seven rounds Hoya, four rounds Trinidad, and one round draw. To my surprise on rewatching this the only fighter wobbled is Trinidad. Yet DLH had to run, he was out of gas big time and Trinidad was gonna knock him out. It's weird in this fight cuz you can still see the freakish power of Trinidad. DLH is running pretty effectively and still managing to outland Trinidad (in the tenth at least, Lederman's card) but when he gets hit you can see it on DLH's face how hard those punches were. Good fight to revisit. :good
De La Hoya won narrowly IMO. It's true that a lot of DLH's shots were parried or missed and the crowd and Jim Lampley went nuts, but he was still landing more shots than Tito.
Have you been rummaging through my closet. Tito's defence was great in that fight, I forgot to mention in the original post how competitive Tito was. I didn't post the thread up to wave the Hoya flag over Tito but because I remember it as a shitty fight but its actually very entertaining. Most people have it 8 rounds to 4, I was kind enough to Tito to shave one off and give him seven. Tito turned down the rematch, not Hoya.
They couldn't agree on terms about the weight. DLH/Arum wanted it lower and Tito/King wanted it higher.
What's there to discuss? One man fought his heart out and for the pride of his country the other turned into a female dog right before our eyes and said afterwards "I gave him a boxing lesson".
If De La Hoya is anyone else he did a masterful boxing & defensive Exibition. But because he's a Latin Fighter he's expected to "Brawl". (Double standard, More is expected from our fighter's) That said, Oscar busted up Trinidad's face pretty bad. The speed difference was huge. I love this fight except the outcome.
That was a boxing lesson. Tito couldn't find him until the end of the fight and even then he couldn't really catch him. It's funny a Floyd fan would make fun of Hoya for that fight. No one fights for there country except poor foot soldiers. Boxers fight for $$$$$. I always think its funny that people say Tito fought for his country while Don King is counting his cash right in front of you.
Very technical fight. I thought Oscar had it 7-5 (I am pretty tolerant toward Tito here). A good fight but not one of the most memorable though.
I had Oscar winning 116-112. Given the fact that Oscar was given the nod in close fights i was soo happy to see him lose this one. This content is protected
