Has the dude ever been hurt? I know he gets slack for being a bit off vs top caliber opponents, he has that pretty boy image, and that crossdressing fiasco, but has the dude ever been hurt during a fight? Except the Bhop fight, obviously.
Unless he was faking - that Body Shot by B-Hop looked like it hurt. But if you're just talking about his chin - I can't remember.
He has one of the most underated chins in boxing..... the only times IVE seen him hurt, and i admit i havnt seen that many oscar fights... was against ike and mosley in the second fight. and granted... these werent even THAT huge... its just the most ive seen him hurt.
at 130 he was a bit chinny. i remember an italian decking him and he was wobbled on a few other fights as well at 130. as he moved up in weights this chin vunerablity went away. shows you how making weight affects some fighters chin.
Like people have said, he's been hurt against Quartey and Mosley. But other than that, despite being floored several times, I haven't seen him truly hurt from a head shot. He has a great chin.
at this time there were big question marks over DLH chin, but it was obviously in hindsight weight making that made him vunerable, but hit him clean at 130 and DLH was suspect. .
Oscar was never a natural 130 - 135lb guy, you saw the same thing with Cotto recently when he was straining to make 140, it ruins your resistance.
The Valenzuela fight was above 130. Anyway, Oscar has a very good chin. Also, he's generally pretty good defensively and aggressive against the lesser punchers while more defensive against the bigger punchers. Against Trinidad, he used his footwork and movement and defensive skills well and didn't get caught with too many big shots. Quartey did seem to hurt him in round 6 (I think DLH was actually more hurt from a shot after the KD), but Oscar for the most part did a good job of avoiding Quartey's big right hands (the 9th round being an exception when DLH took a monster right hand and came right back firing). Against lesser hitters, DLH is often more aggressive. So with Oscar having a very good chin and good skills, he's only been stopped once and hurt a low number of times in his career despite facing so many quality opponents.
I think Pacquiao is another case of someone moving up in weight and taking shots better, with stronger legs and not being weakened from making weight.
