DLH's Son, Aiming for Olympic Gold

That was the kid's email, it was flashing on the screen in the video. LOL at him going on Oscar's Twitter. The kid is old enough now to do some hunting down of his own. He doesn't really even understand what is going on though. His mom doesn't tell him that Oscar is bad and has abandoned him. She tells him that Oscar is around bad people and that it is those people who don't want Oscar seeing him.

I've been following the story for about 3 years now. Next year the kid will be a teenager. Being named DLH is not an easy task, especially when you have none of the DLH protection in place. I can only imagine that the kids are ruthless to him and that they will only get worse in high school.

The mom is on the crazy side of life, but she is also pretty smart and has her moments. The big beef with her was that she was married to the drummer of Great White when Oscar made this kid. Oscar flipped when he found out. She even said there was a custody battle brought by the drummer. Then some deal got signed and she was basicly shamed into it and did not want to ruin his career. She signed the deal and shut up.

She said the grandson used to visit Joel while he was little. But that Oscar put a halt to it at some point in time. Then they tried to see him at the BHop fight.

Then Oscar retired. And she came out of the closet full on. As it was her understanding that if she left Oscar alone to persue his career that would get involved with Devon's life as he got older and in more need of a man around. She has been gunning hard for 3 years to get it to happen.

The woman does not even question Oscar's parenting skill or anything. She has said over and over for Oscar to just come get him. That he can take him whenever or for however long he wants. I think she would even sign over full custody of the child if she had that option. She just wants him to know his dad and feel some love from him.

IMO she is nutty, Oscar is nutty, Schaefer is nutty, but the kid is alright. Like was said in the thread, the kid didn't do anything wrong. Both his parents did the tango and both of them produced him. I actually think it is quite a feat for the boy to be fairly happy, so smart and very polite. He could just as easily be a raging ball of hate and little terror.

But, he hasn't felt the full brunt of the situation yet. And hopefully he won't. He is 12 and if Oscar would get involved with him now, he may never have to go through the whole experience of rejection from his father. If he doesn't, the next 6 years of this kids life are going to be very hard. Maybe boxing will step in and save him irregardless of Oscar, but he would have a much better shot if his old man would just get involved. Hopefully he will.
