One thing I don't get here - you are a big Beterbiev fan right? Denigrating his best win (at least since Gvodzyk) doesn't do ANYTHING for Beterbiev at all. I've seen the same in other posts where folks belittle Fury after the Usyk losses, when all that does is de-value Usyks wins. Personally, I look at things differently - Beterbiev is a real physical freak of nature (especially seeing what he can do at 40!!), insanely strong AND blessed with underrated technical skills and ability himself , and ONLY someone with the technical skills of Bivol was able to last the 12 rounds with him. Contrast the difference between Artur vs Smith (both Callum and Joe), Yarde, Browne etc. The eye-test there tells you everything you need to know IMO. Where Bivol has weakness or flaw IMO isn't technically/mechanics, it's his ability to adjust to plan b/c/d - and he never needed to till Artur. I will be interested to see what gameplan Bivol brings to the rematch - I think that will tell folks everything they need to know about Bivol's ceiling & flaws IMO
Mayweather was an offensive machine before he developed hand problems, and a good bit of his legacy was made during those days.
offense? Bam has to be in the conversation, with his endless angle changing and relentless body attacks. He never stops trying to break opponents down and punish them, always trying to hurt them. The difference between his public personality and what a mean showboaty SOB he is in the ring amuses me.
You mean the same Joe Smith Jr. that brutally KO'd and ended the career of Eleider Alvarez? The same Eleider Alvarez who KO'd Kovalev and Kovalev cautiously outpointed in the rematch. That Joe Smith Jr.? I love The Krusher, and don't doubt a prime version would've been a nightmare for Bivol and possibly stopped him, might've stopped Beterbiev as well. But no need to denigrate Joe Smith Jr or Bivol's skills in the process. No matter how much of a defensive whiz someone is, they get clipped occasionally, and Joe has bricks for fists, and would've probably had enough to KO Kovalev or Beterbiev if he caught them flush as well.
No I think Bivol is almost flawless technically, his concentration is phenomenal. I was rooting for Beterbiev but had the fight a draw (need to watch again) and I was so impressed with how Bivol held his own in every department including how much he could hurt and push back Beterbiev.
Even the best defensive fighters get hit sometimes. Sweet Pea, Floyd etc. been hit clean on the chin too.
Yeah, but Zurdo already unified 2 titles in the division, beating 2 title holders, so it's definitely bring value to him as a scalp.
how is he going to do that? the man constantly comes forward and has very powerful short range shots.
I predicted AB would KO Bivol. I was wrong. I was not that impressed with Beterbiev's performance in the first fight. I noticed what appeared to me, to be clear regression from his past form. I'm hoping it was the knee injury and that he turns it up a notch in the rematch. It also could be that he's simply old now and this is what he is.
Obviously Bivol isn't able to do that. And it's easier said than done while his opponent keeps coming at him with sledgehammer-like powerful punches. All he could do was to avoid being knocked out.
Or, just maybe, Artur was facing an opponent with elite defence, sharp jab, and well-timed 1-2s, and great management of distance and footwork which forced him to take longer to figure things out and impose his will and physical strength on the proceedings? You can't do a direct comparison from Callum Smith, Yarde showings to Bivol, unless you think Bivol & Smith etc would fight to a draw/ be evenly matched, and I very doubt many people would see those other than a Bivol shutout.
